Operations / Project Manager Job Description This position is a primarily management-focused Operations / Project Manager role responsible for overseeing field operations, project execution, estimating, and account growth within an environmental services setting. The successful candidate will manage field crews and office staff, drive operational performance, support estimating and forecasting, and help expand new lines of business. This role suits a hands-on leader who can balance field operations, client relationships, and business development while ensuring safety, quality, and productivity across multiple projects. Responsibilities Manage and oversee approximately 20 field personnel and 2 office staff, ensuring they work safely, efficiently, and in alignment with company standards. Lead daily operations across multiple projects, maintaining a strong focus on productivity, safety, and quality. Provide clear direction to crews in the field and hold team members accountable for performance and results. Support hiring, onboarding, and performance management of field staff to build and maintain a high-performing team. Oversee projects from award through completion, ensuring schedules, budgets, and scope are consistently met. Manage a wide range of project sizes, including public projects up to $15M and private projects typically ranging from $25K to $75K, including smaller environmental waste pickup projects. Coordinate resources, subcontractors, and internal teams to ensure project goals and client expectations are met. Review job costs, productivity, and performance metrics to identify trends, issues, and opportunities for improvement. Support and perform estimating for new and existing work, contributing to accurate bids and proposals. Develop projections and forecasting to support operational planning and resource allocation. Track budgets, margins, and overall project financial performance to help ensure profitability and cost control. Provide input into pricing strategy and workload planning to align operational capacity with business demand. Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned clients, maintaining strong, professional relationships. Support account management and new business development efforts by identifying client needs and opportunities. Identify opportunities to expand existing client relationships and grow revenue within current accounts. Help evaluate and grow new lines of business within the companys service offerings. Assist leadership with expanding operational capacity and enhancing service offerings to support growth. Help standardize workflows and processes to improve operational efficiency and consistency across projects. Provide operational insight and feedback to support company growth initiatives and strategic planning. Operate effectively in a hands-on, fast-paced environment, stepping into the field as needed to support crews and ensure successful project delivery. Essential Skills Strong experience managing field crews, including providing direction, oversight, and accountability in the field. Proven project management experience in environmental services, construction, or related service industries. Experience with estimating, including preparing estimates and reviewing job costs and projections. Ability to review and interpret job costs, productivity data, and performance metrics to support decision making. Experience supporting account management and client relationships, including acting as a primary point of contact. Ability to support forecasting, planning, and operational decision making in a dynamic environment. Comfort working in a hands-on, fast-paced setting, balancing field operations and office responsibilities. Strong operations management skills, including planning, organizing, and executing multiple projects simultaneously. Effective supervision and leadership skills, with the ability to manage both field and office personnel. Strong management skills, including performance management, coaching, and team development. No college degree required for this role. No certifications or licenses required; the role is open to candidates without formal credentials. Additional Skills & Qualifications Existing certifications in environmental services, construction, safety, or related fields are considered a plus but are not required. The organization is willing to support obtaining certifications as needed for the role. Experience in environmental waste handling, remediation, or related services is beneficial. Background in operations management, project management, supervision, and estimation is highly valued. Ability to contribute ideas to improve workflows, processes, and operational efficiency. Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with field staff, office staff, leadership, and clients. Motivation to take on a leadership-level role with real operational impact and influence over business growth. Interest in contributing to the expansion of new business lines and service offerings. Work Environment This is an on-site position overseeing the remediation division, with direct responsibility for managing approximately 20 field laborers and 2 office staff. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lindenhurst, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $48.00 - $68.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
