Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a Machining Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day business and production activities of our tight-knit shop. This role combines operational strategy with manufacturing engineering and hands-on technical expertise . You will manage the entire operational lifecycle—from quoting and scheduling to programming and quality control—ensuring optimal efficiency, profitability, and on-time delivery for our customers.
Key Responsibilities Operations & Workflow Management:
Oversee entire shop floor operations, optimizing machine capacity, material flow, and job scheduling for our team.
Quoting & Job Costing:
Analyze customer prints to estimate material, tooling, and labor costs, ensuring profitable and competitive pricing.
Manufacturing Engineering:
Lead process planning, design fixtures, optimize tooling choices, and leverage engineering principles to reduce cycle times and setup bottlenecks.
Programming & Tech Support:
Utilize Solidworks, FeatureCam, and Hurco Conversational to program complex jobs and solve technical shop floor issues.
Supply Chain & Vendor Relations:
Manage relationships with material suppliers, tooling vendors, and outside service providers (e.g., heat treating, plating).
Quality & CMM Oversight:
Maintain tight-tolerance quality standards and oversee part inspection processes using the Zeiss Contura
CMM. KPI
Tracking:
Monitor and report on key shop metrics such as on-time delivery, machine utilization, scrap rates, and overall job profitability.
Technical & Machine Requirements CAD/CAM Software:
Advanced proficiency in Solidworks , FeatureCam , and Hurco Conversational programming.
CNC Equipment:
Experience with Hurco Mills, Samsung Lathes, and Fortune V-Centers.
Manual & Toolroom Machines:
Competency with Clausing 2-Axis Accurite, K-3 Vertical Mills with Prototrak, Sharp Manual Lathes, and Surface Grinders.
Quality Equipment:
Familiarity with Zeiss Contura CMM and high-precision inspection techniques.
Print Reading:
Expert knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
Experience and Qualifications Operations Leadership:
3+ years of experience in operations management, production control, or plant management role within a manufacturing environment.
Engineering Background:
Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent heavy technical trade experience.
Machining Expertise:
5+ years of hands-on setup, operating, and programming experience across CNC and manual equipment.
Industry Experience:
Background manufacturing parts for aerospace, automotive, commercial food service, or industrial equipment sectors.
Small-Shop Acumen:
Proven ability to wear multiple hats and manage both the administrative and physical demands of a high-mix, low-volume job shop. Join us as a Machining Operations Manager where your expertise will directly impact our manufacturing excellence!
