Position Summary The Executive Director (ED) serves as the chief administrative leader of the organization. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors in Woodburn and to the chief cultural leader/lead instructor Jose Carlos Sandoval. The ED is responsible for successfully translating the nonprofit's mission: "To teach indigenous Aztec culture and traditions through dance, music and the arts" into actionable, community-centered programs. This role will maintain a heavy focus on arts administration, including the booking, scheduling, and logistical coordination of Aztec dance presentations, while directing broader cultural programming, educational workshops, and community events. This Executive Director role leads the daily operations, cultural programming, and strategic vision for a small nonprofit. The position specifically oversees the scheduling of Aztec dance presentations and manages all community outreach, grant writing, board relations, and financial administration. Key Responsibilities Cultural Programming & Event Management Curate, design, and execute the nonprofit's annual cultural calendar, workshops, and community events. Act as the lead booking agent and coordinator for Aztec dance presentations, handling performance logistics, artist contracts, fees, and scheduling for festivals, schools, and library events. Serve as the primary liaison between the organization, dancers, and Aztec General Jose Carlos Sandoval to ensure cultural accuracy, respect, and authenticity. Maintain the sustainability of the annual Aztec velacion/danza (powwow) for the Virgin de Guadalupe. Fundraising & Development Design and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies, including grant writing, donor cultivation, and corporate sponsorships. Oversee and expand revenue streams from paid Aztec dance presentations and cultural programming. Manage the organization's grant portfolio, including researching opportunities, writing proposals, and fulfilling reporting requirements. Financial Management & Administration Develop, monitor, and maintain the annual organizational operating budget in collaboration with the Board Treasurer and Secretary Ensure financial compliance, manage cash flow, and prepare accurate reports for board meetings. Oversee day-to-day administration, maintain organizational records, and ensure compliance with all nonprofit regulations. File all yearly paperwork with the Oregon Secretary of State, Oregon Department of Justice, and the IRS. Community Outreach & Public Relations Act as the primary spokesperson and public face of the organization, advocating for cultural arts education along with lead instructor Jose Carlos Sandoval. Build and maintain strategic partnerships with the Woodburn School District, local nonprofits like CAPACES and PCUN, other Aztec Dance groups, and regional cultural groups to expand the nonprofit's geographic footprint and audience base within Oregon and SW Washington. Board Relations & Governance Partner closely with the Board of Directors to establish the organization's long-term strategic vision and annual goals. Provide the Board with transparent, timely data and reports regarding operational progress and program impact.
Qualifications Education:
minimum of a Bachelor's degree in any subject
Experience:
minimum of 3-4 years in the leadership of a cultural nonprofit
Cultural Competency:
Strong, authentic connection to and deep understanding of Aztec cultural traditions, danza, and the specific needs of the local community.
Arts Administration:
Proven experience booking or scheduling performing artists, managing independent contractors, and coordinating event logistics.
Fundraising:
Demonstrated success in securing grants, managing sponsorships, and growing revenue
Communication:
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; bilingual English/Spanish required
Accounting:
Must understand have accounting skills or experience in balancing budgets and preparing balance sheets
