POSITION SUMMARY

Peak Utility Locators is seeking an experienced and motivated Vacuum Excavation Service Lead to help lead and grow our vacuum excavation operations. This hands-on role combines vacuum excavation, fleet and equipment management, crew leadership, and private utility locating. The ideal candidate is comfortable operating equipment, directing field personnel, communicating with customers, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring our fleet and projects run safely and efficiently. This is primarily a mobile, field-based position. Team members report directly to project sites and can expect to work at different locations throughout the region on a daily basis. While occasional office meetings, planning, and administrative duties may be required, the majority of work is performed in the field supporting vacuum excavation, utility locating, and related operations.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead Vacuum Excavation Projects:

Operate and oversee projects from mobilization through completion; coordinate daily activities, equipment, and job-site logistics.

Lead & Develop Field Crews:

Direct field personnel, provide hands-on coaching, and ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and professionally.

Enforce Safety & Support Operations:

Promote and enforce company safety policies and procedures; perform utility locating, digging, and other field assignments as needed.

Communicate & Coordinate:

Work with customers, contractors, project managers, and office staff; complete project planning and documentation. Own the

Fleet & Equipment:

Take ownership of the vacuum excavation fleet and specialty equipment; keep all units clean, organized, and ready for deployment.

Inspect, Maintain & Repair:

Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and upkeep; identify mechanical issues, troubleshoot equipment, and coordinate repairs when needed.

Manage Readiness & Records:

Monitor equipment performance, minimize downtime through proactive maintenance, and maintain service records, inspection logs, and maintenance schedules.

Perform Utility Locating:

Use electromagnetic locating equipment and field investigation techniques; interpret utility records, as-builts, construction drawings, and site plans; mark utilities and communicate findings to customers and contractors.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with pneumatic and hydro vacuum excavation, utility locating, general excavation, or related field operations. Diesel mechanic, heavy truck, fleet maintenance, or heavy equipment experience is highly preferred. Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot equipment. Strong problem-solving skills Strong leadership and communication skills; experience supervising or directing field personnel preferred. Experience reading utility maps, as-builts, and construction plans preferred. Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred but not required Must be able to pass DOT Physical Commitment to safety, quality, and customer service.

Pay:

$25.00 - $40.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 - 50.0 per week
