Job Description

Energuy is looking for an Area Manager to run our Sacramento and North/Bay Area territory like a small business. This is a sales, leadership and operations role. You own the growth of your market. You own the contractor relationships. You lead the Raters completing the work. You manage the vehicles and equipment they need to do it. When something in your territory is not working, you are expected to see it, solve it and keep moving. Think less traditional manager and more local business operator. You will have support from Energuy's corporate teams, but this is your market to build. What You Own Revenue & Business Development Growth starts with you. Build new contractor relationships throughout your territory Prospect, cold call, network and generate your own opportunities Manage the sales cycle from first conversation through close Visit contractor offices regularly Grow existing accounts by identifying additional services and opportunities Build relationships with utilities, manufacturers, distributors and industry partners Ask for referrals and follow up on opportunities Maintain an active sales pipeline and accurate client activity Understand competitor pricing, market conditions and contractor needs Take ownership of client concerns and resolve them quickly You are expected to know where your next customer is coming from. Your People Your Raters are your field team. You are responsible for building a productive team that contractors want working in their homes and businesses. Manage and coach the Raters assigned to your territory Know each team member's capacity, performance and development needs Support recruiting, interviewing and hiring Own local onboarding and field readiness Conduct regular field ride-alongs and coaching Run weekly team calls and monthly calibration meetings Review production, quality, paperwork and customer experience Conduct performance reviews Address performance and communication problems quickly Approve time, mileage and expenses Recognize strong performance and develop future leaders Build a team people want to stay on If your territory needs additional capacity, you should know before it becomes an emergency. Vehicles, Equipment & Field Readiness Your territory cannot operate without its tools. You are responsible for the condition, availability and accountability of the vehicles and equipment assigned to your team.
This includes:
Company vehicles and rentals Vehicle condition and maintenance Mileage and appropriate vehicle use Testing equipment Ladders, printers, tablets and field supplies Equipment assignment and inventory Calibration and maintenance schedules Lost, damaged or missing equipment New-hire equipment setup Making sure Raters have what they need before they enter the field Vehicles and equipment should be treated the same way you would treat assets in a business you owned. Territory Operations You will know what is happening in your market. Monitor job volume and available field capacity Identify scheduling or geographic problems Reduce unnecessary drive time Help Scheduling understand local territory realities Watch backlog and service turnaround times Identify where additional Raters are needed Help troubleshoot difficult jobs and contractor situations Support field testing when necessary Maintain local service quality as the territory grows Look for wasted time, wasted miles and wasted resources Bring solutions, not simply problems You will work closely with Scheduling, Permits, Inspections, HR, Accounting and leadership, but you remain accountable for how your territory performs. Know Your Business We will train you on the technical side of Energuy. You will develop working knowledge of: California Title 24 HERS and ECC testing Home Energy Score BPI standards Energy audits Field verification and testing Contractor compliance workflows Energuy's additional contractor services You do not need to become the best technician on your team. You do need enough technical knowledge to lead your people and speak credibly with contractors. You Will Have a Scoreboard This is a results-based position. You should always know how your market is performing. We will look at measures such as: Territory revenue New revenue generated New contractors acquired Existing account growth Sales pipeline and conversion Client retention Contractor visits and activity Jobs completed Field capacity and utilization Rater productivity Rater retention Service turnaround time Drive time and territory efficiency Vehicle and equipment accountability Customer satisfaction Quality and compliance We are not looking for someone who manages activity. We are looking for someone who produces results. Who Does Well Here We can teach you our industry. We cannot teach you to care deeply about the result.
The right person probably:
Gets uncomfortable when numbers are going backward Picks up the phone instead of sending another email Likes meeting business owners Is comfortable asking for business Notices problems before someone points them out Can lead field employees without micromanaging them Holds people accountable without losing their trust Treats company vehicles, equipment and money like their own Knows how to prioritize when five things go wrong at once Makes decisions Follows through Is competitive Has grit Likes autonomy Wants a bigger opportunity than simply managing a department You should enjoy walking into a territory and thinking, How big can I make this? This Role Is Probably Not For You If... You need your manager to tell you what to work on every day. You dislike prospecting. You avoid difficult conversations. You believe sales belongs to Sales, people problems belong to HR, vehicle problems belong to Operations and customer problems belong to Client Success. As Area Manager, they are all your responsibility until the right person owns the solution. That is what running a territory means. What You Need 3+ years of successful sales, business development, territory management or general management experience Experience supervising employees Demonstrated ability to generate new business Strong communication and relationship-building skills Ability to interpret numbers and use them to make decisions Valid California driver's license and acceptable driving record Ability to travel throughout Sacramento, the Bay Area and Northern California Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Occasional Saturday and overnight availability Experience in HVAC, construction, home services, building products, equipment rental, distribution or another field-service industry is helpful but not required. What You Get $72,500 base salary Uncapped commission Performance bonus Company vehicle Full industry and technical training Direct access to senior leadership Autonomy to build your market Advancement opportunity as Energuy grows This position has room to become much bigger for the person who makes the territory bigger. A Note From Our President I started my Energuy career as an Area Manager. It taught me how to sell, manage people, solve customer problems, understand operations and take responsibility for a market. I am looking for someone with that same fire. You do not have to know everything on Day 1. You do have to be hungry, resourceful and willing to own the result. If you want a job where someone hands you a list every morning, this probably isn't it. If you want the opportunity to build a market, develop a team, create relationships and show us what you can do with real ownership, I want to meet you.
