Job Description Job Description:

Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is representing a small progressive dairy operation located in Rhode Island that is seeking an experienced, hands-on Operations Manager to lead herd management, milk production, employees, and overall day-to-day farm operations. This is a key leadership position requiring an individual who can balance hands-on dairy management with employee leadership, operational decision-making, and continuous improvement. The Operations Manager will oversee herd health, reproduction, animal welfare, milk quality, calf and youngstock development, and overall herd performance. Responsibilities include identifying and treating health concerns, managing breeding and reproductive performance, maintaining accurate herd records, and working closely with veterinarians and nutritionists to optimize animal health, nutrition, and milk production. This position will also oversee daily farm operations, staffing and scheduling, employee training and development, inventory management, and facility and equipment maintenance. The Operations Manager will monitor key performance indicators for milk production and quality, reproduction, herd health, labor efficiency, and operational productivity, while identifying opportunities to improve workflow, performance, and cost management.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred in Animal Science, Dairy Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience leading a commercial dairy operation, herd, or production team
  • Strong knowledge of herd health, reproduction, nutrition, milk quality, and overall dairy production
  • Proven employee supervision, leadership, training, and team development experience
  • Experience utilizing herd management software, production records, and performance data
  • Strong operational and business management skills with the ability to monitor productivity, labor efficiency, and costs
  • Strong organizational, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Mechanical aptitude with experience operating and troubleshooting farm equipment
  • AI certification, Dairy Herd Management, or advanced Herd Health training preferred
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
