Based on business and operational needs Position Summary The Packer / Palletizer is responsible for safely and efficiently preparing customer shipments for domestic and international transportation. This position performs packing, palletizing, labeling, wrapping, weighing, staging, and general warehouse duties while ensuring shipments are properly prepared according to company procedures and freight-forwarding requirements. The ideal candidate is dependable, physically capable, detail-oriented, and able to work at a consistent pace in a fast-paced warehouse environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Receive, sort, organize, and prepare packages for shipment. Pack and repack freight using appropriate cartons, pallets, protective materials, and other packing supplies. Build and properly stack pallets according to shipment requirements. Safely wrap, strap, band, and secure pallets and cartons for transportation. Verify package counts, labels, and shipment information before freight is staged. Apply shipping labels, handling labels, pallet labels, and other required markings. Weigh and measure packages, pallets, and freight accurately. Consolidate multiple packages into pallets or other appropriate shipping units. Inspect packages for visible damage and report discrepancies to the supervisor. Ensure freight is properly protected against movement or damage during transportation. Stage completed shipments in designated warehouse areas according to destination, carrier, sailing, or delivery schedule. Assist with loading and unloading trucks, containers, trailers, and other transportation equipment. Assist with container loading and unloading while following proper weight distribution and cargo-securing procedures. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. Follow all warehouse safety procedures and company policies. Follow instructions regarding international, ocean, air, and domestic freight shipments. Handle freight carefully to prevent damage, loss, or misrouting. Assist with inventory counts and warehouse organization as needed. Operate pallet jacks and other warehouse equipment safely when authorized and trained. Report damaged freight, shortages, overages, unsafe conditions, or other shipment discrepancies immediately. Perform other warehouse and shipping-related duties as assigned. Freight-Forwarding Responsibilities Because this position operates in a freight-forwarding environment, the employee must understand the importance of shipment accuracy and proper cargo preparation .
Responsibilities may include:
Preparing LCL, FCL, air freight, and domestic shipments for transportation. Separating freight by destination, booking, customer, carrier, or service level. Ensuring cargo is properly packaged and secured for international transportation. Identifying freight that may require special handling. Immediately notifying management of suspected hazardous materials or improperly declared cargo. Following company procedures for dangerous goods, restricted commodities, lithium batteries, liquids, and other special shipments. Assisting with documentation verification when required. Meeting daily receiving, packing, palletizing, and shipping deadlines. Employees are not permitted to make independent dangerous-goods classifications or accept undeclared hazardous materials unless specifically trained and authorized to do so. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and move packages and freight weighing up to 50 pounds regularly and heavier items with assistance or appropriate equipment. Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, push, pull, and lift for extended periods. Ability to work in a warehouse environment where temperatures and noise levels may vary. Ability to safely operate or work around pallet jacks, forklifts, conveyors, and other warehouse equipment. Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks while maintaining accuracy and productivity. Qualifications Previous warehouse, packing, shipping, logistics, or freight-forwarding experience preferred. Previous palletizing experience preferred. Ability to read shipping labels and basic shipment information. Basic math skills, including counting, weighing, and measuring. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Strong attention to detail. Dependable and punctual with a strong work ethic. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Ability to meet established productivity and quality standards. Safety & Compliance The employee must follow all company safety procedures, including proper lifting techniques, use of personal protective equipment, equipment operating procedures, and cargo-handling requirements. Safety, shipment accuracy, and proper handling of customer freight are essential functions of this position. Performance Expectations The successful employee is expected to: Maintain consistent productivity throughout the workday. Complete assigned work accurately and on schedule. Handle customer freight with care. Maintain a clean and organized workstation. Follow supervisor instructions and company procedures. Minimize packing errors, damaged freight, and shipment discrepancies. Demonstrate reliable attendance and punctuality. Work cooperatively with warehouse, operations, and management personnel. Employment Requirements Full-time position. Schedule and work hours may vary based on business volume and operational requirements. Overtime may be required during peak periods or when business needs dictate. Employment is subject to company policies and applicable federal, state, and local laws.
Pay:
$18.00 - $20.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
