Full-time Packaging Development & Sourcing Specialist Location:
South Portland, Maine Reports to: Director - Creative & Product Design Role Overview We are looking for a highly organized and technical Packaging Development & Sourcing Specialist to lead the end-to-end lifecycle of our physical products. You will sit at the intersection of brand vision and manufacturing reality, turning creative concepts into high-quality, cost-effective, and market-ready packaging solutions. Your mission is to ensure every component—from glass jars to gift-with-purchase (GWP) items—upholds our brand's premium aesthetic while meeting rigorous quality and margin targets. Key Responsibilities1.End-to-End Packaging Development Concept Execution:
Translate brand vision into functional, visually compelling packaging. Partner with the creative team to select materials, finishes, and structures that differentiate us in the market.Technical Design:
Collaborate with design refine artwork, inserts, and structural components.Brand Consistency:
Ensure color matching and finish consistency across all SKUs, materials (glass, plastic, paper), and production batches. 2.Global Sourcing & Vendor Management Strategic Sourcing:
Identify, vet, and onboard domestic and international suppliers.Factory Relations:
Act as the primary daily point of contact for manufacturers to track production and troubleshoot real-time issues (e.g., color shifts, tooling errors).Sampling Management:
Lead the coordination of all sampling stages, from initial prototypes to Pre-Production (PP) and Top-of-Production (TOP) samples. 3.Cost Optimization & Negotiation Margin Management:
Negotiate unit pricing, Minimum Order Quantities (MOQs), and payment terms to hit aggressive margin targets.Strategic Savings:
Proactively identify cost-saving opportunities through material engineering or supplier competition.Market Intelligence:
Monitor global material trends (resin prices, freight, etc.) to manage cost fluctuations. 4.Quality Assurance & Compliance Rigorous Testing:
Partner with QC to perform durability, compatibility, and "real-world" testing (leakage, stability, shipping resilience).Compliance & Proofing:
Oversee the final proofing of all labels and packaging copy to ensure regulatory compliance and 100% accuracy.Quality Standards:
Establish clear SOPs for pre-shipment inspections and ongoing quality audits.Qualifications Experience:
3-5+ years in packaging development, sourcing, or production (Beauty/CPG experience highly preferred).Technical Mastery:
Deep understanding of manufacturing processes across plastics, glass, and secondary paper packaging.Negotiation Skills:
Proven track record of lowering COGS without sacrificing quality.Detail Obsession:
A "eagle eye" for color, typography, and structural integrity.Communication:
Ability to manage international vendors across different time zones and cultural nuances.Cross-Functional Project Leadership:
Proven track record of spearheading complex, multi-departmental initiatives by aligning diverse stakeholders, managing end-to-end project lifecycles, and utilizing [Agile/Waterfall/Scrum] methodologies to deliver results on time and within budget.Physical Requirements:
This position requires continuous work on a computer for up to 8 hours per day.
