Job Title:
Utility Packer Job Description The Utility Packer works on a high-volume packaging line, sorting, bagging, boxing, and packaging frozen vegetables. This contract-to-hire role focuses on accurate packing, quality inspection, and sanitation in a cold, wet production environment, supporting fast-paced production operations. Responsibilities Work on the packaging line to sort, bag, box, and package frozen vegetable products according to production requirements. Dump, pack, and stack frozen products efficiently and safely. Pack products into properly labeled cases, ensuring correct labels and packaging materials are used. Inspect products to identify and remove blemishes, defects, and any foreign material to maintain quality standards. Perform sanitation tasks on all packing lines, keeping equipment and work areas clean and compliant with sanitation programs. Follow all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), safety rules, operating procedures, and sanitation programs at all times. Maintain general housekeeping standards in the work area, ensuring cleanliness and organization regardless of position or status. Stack finished products onto specific pallet types in an orderly and stable manner for storage or shipment. Operate the facility dump station when required, following established procedures and safety guidelines. Work effectively in a cold and wet environment, adapting to temperature and moisture conditions throughout the shift. Lift items weighing up to 50 pounds as needed to support packing, stacking, and material handling tasks. Perform basic quality assurance checks on products and packaging, helping ensure all items leaving the facility meet quality requirements. Keep up with a fast-paced production environment, maintaining productivity while product is conveyed and packed into various packaging receptacles. Essential Skills At least 2-3 months of experience in packing or production work. Ability to perform general labor tasks in a production or warehouse environment. Experience with packing, sorting, and handling products on a production line. Capability to work in a fast-paced production setting while maintaining accuracy and quality. Basic understanding of quality assurance responsibilities, including making necessary quality checks on outgoing items. Ability to follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), safety procedures, and sanitation guidelines. Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods in a cold, wet environment. Comfort working with packaging equipment and materials to weigh, seal, and prepare products for shipment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in warehouse packing or packaging operations. Familiarity with production line processes and conveyor systems. Attention to detail for identifying product blemishes and foreign materials. Reliability and strong attendance to support production and growth opportunities. Willingness to learn and operate facility equipment such as dump stations. Work Environment The role is based in a production facility that operates in a cold and wet environment, with temperatures typically around 35-40 degrees in the main production area and approximately 0 degrees in the freezer. Production workers will rarely need to enter the freezer, but should be comfortable working in chilled conditions. The environment is fast-paced, with products continuously conveyed and packed into various packaging receptacles.
Shifts are structured as follows:
first shift runs from early morning to 3:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, with potential work on Saturdays; second shift runs from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, with potential work on Saturdays; third shift runs from 11:00 p.m. to early morning, Sunday to Thursday, with potential additional hours. Employees should expect to wear appropriate attire suitable for cold, wet production conditions and adhere to all safety and sanitation requirements. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lebanon, PA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $17.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
