Position Description:
Xamax Industries is seeking a Purchasing & Material Planning Manager. This position combines production and material planning, purchasing coordination, inventory management, scheduling, logistics and hands-on operational leadership. The role is intended for an experienced manufacturing professional who may have grown through production planning, supply chain, purchasing or plant operations and is ready for broader responsibility. In a smaller manufacturing company, success requires both management capability and willingness to get directly involved: solve today's material or scheduling problem, coordinate across departments, and then improve the process so the problem is less likely to recur. Primary Responsibilities Coordinate the daily and forward-looking production and material plan so customer requirements, machine capacity, labor and raw-material availability stay aligned. Work with Production and Operations to establish priorities, adjust schedules and resolve constraints that could affect customer deliveries. Own or coordinate raw-material planning and purchasing, including purchase timing, supplier commitments, expediting and inventory levels. Manage the flow of materials from supplier through receiving, staging, production and shipment, working closely with warehouse and logistics resources. Monitor inventory, lead times, usage and production demand to prevent shortages while reducing excess inventory and working-capital requirements. Serve as an operating bridge among Production, Purchasing, Quality, Customer Service and Sales so information moves quickly and commitments are realistic. Help ensure customer orders are produced on time, to specification and with accurate communication when priorities or requirements change. Support plant productivity by identifying bottlenecks involving materials, scheduling, workflow, outside processing, freight or supplier performance. Participate in supplier selection, negotiations, performance management and quality issue resolution. Support new-product introductions by coordinating materials, suppliers, trials, production requirements and timing. Use ERP and operational data to improve planning accuracy, inventory control, schedule adherence, freight/material costs and overall operating efficiency. Develop and track practical KPIs for material availability, inventory, supplier delivery, schedule performance and other assigned operating priorities. Act as a key backup to the VP of Operations & Administration on daily plant and administrative operating issues and take ownership of special projects as needed. Help build a culture of accountability, urgency, teamwork and continuous improvement while maintaining a practical, respectful working environment.
Position Requirements:
7+ years of progressive manufacturing experience in operations, production planning, materials, supply chain, purchasing or a combination of these disciplines. Demonstrated experience working directly with production scheduling, raw-material requirements, inventory and customer delivery commitments. Familiarity with rolled goods, slitting, laminating, converting, films, nonwovens, paper, textiles or similar light manufacturing is strongly preferred. Strong operational judgment and the ability to balance customer needs, plant capacity, material availability, cost and working capital. Experience with ERP/MRP systems and strong Excel skills; Sage 100 experience is helpful. Ability to manage multiple priorities, make decisions with incomplete information, follow through and communicate clearly across functions. Experience supervising employees or leading cross-functional operating teams preferred. Bachelor's degree in engineering, business or related field preferred; equivalent manufacturing leadership experience will be considered. Why This Role Is Different This position offers substantially broader scope than a traditional materials-planning job. It sits at the intersection of materials, scheduling, production, customer commitments and plant performance. For the right candidate, it is a pathway to greater operations responsibility and a chance to work directly with senior leadership on improving how the business runs.
