Job Description

Purchasing Manager A growing distributor/manufacturer located in Elgin is seeking an experienced Purchasing Manager to lead and oversee all purchasing and procurement activities. This full-time position is responsible for developing purchasing strategies, managing supplier relationships, overseeing inventory levels, and ensuring the timely procurement of raw materials, stocked items, and non-stock items. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership, negotiation, and analytical skills with a proven track record in manufacturing and/or distribution. Compensation is based on experience. Responsibilities Lead and manage the day-to-day purchasing and procurement functions. Develop and implement purchasing strategies to optimize cost, quality, and supplier performance. Prepare, review, and approve purchase requisitions and purchase orders for goods, services, and supplies. Source and evaluate new suppliers through market research, manufacturers, distributors, and industry resources. Negotiate pricing, contracts, delivery schedules, and payment terms with vendors. Build and maintain strong supplier relationships while monitoring supplier performance. Forecast purchasing requirements and maintain appropriate inventory levels to support production and customer demand. Collaborate with operations, production, sales, and warehouse teams to ensure purchasing activities align with business objectives. Monitor inventory trends and identify opportunities to reduce costs and improve inventory turnover. Analyze purchasing data and prepare reports on spending, supplier performance, and cost-saving initiatives. Ensure compliance with company policies and procurement best practices. Identify and implement continuous process improvements within the purchasing department. Train, mentor, and supervise purchasing staff as the department grows. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, or a related field preferred. Minimum of 7 years of purchasing or procurement experience, with leadership or supervisory experience preferred. Strong knowledge of purchasing, inventory control, and supply chain management principles. Excellent negotiation and vendor management skills. Advanced organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities. Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word. Experience with ERP/MRP systems is preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Competitive salary based on experience.

$80,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
