Obtain and evaluate supplier quotes based on price, lead time, quality, availability, and project requirements. Negotiate pricing and delivery terms with suppliers. Develop and maintain reliable supplier relationships and identify alternate sources when needed. Monitor open purchase orders and proactively address late or potentially late deliveries. Ensure purchases comply with project specifications and customer requirements. Estimating Support Work with the Estimating Department to source and price hardware, materials, and outsourced services during the estimating process. Obtain competitive quotations for specialty or non-standard items. Identify long-lead, difficult-to-source, or high-risk items prior to project award. Provide current market pricing and supplier information to support accurate estimates. Project & Operations Support Coordinate purchasing requirements with Project Management and Operations. Review project requirements and drawings as needed to understand hardware requirements. Help ensure materials are ordered in accordance with fabrication and project schedules. Resolve shortages, incorrect shipments, damaged material, and supplier-related issues. Communicate material availability and delivery concerns to affected team members. Hardware & Item Management Maintain accurate purchasing and supplier information in the company's ERP system. Assist with establishing and maintaining standardized hardware items and descriptions. Coordinate new item and supplier setup through established company processes. Ensure required certifications, documentation, and material traceability are obtained when applicable. Help identify opportunities to standardize commonly purchased hardware and reduce unnecessary inventory. Purchasing Controls Follow established purchasing authorization and approval procedures. Maintain appropriate separation between purchasing, receiving, and invoice approval responsibilities. Ensure purchase orders accurately reflect quantities, specifications, pricing, delivery requirements, and project information. Work with Accounting to resolve pricing, receiving, and invoice discrepancies. Typical Products Purchased Structural bolts, nuts, washers, anchors, threaded rod, fasteners, joist and deck accessories, miscellaneous fabrication hardware, specialty hardware, and other project-specific materials or outsourced services. Requirements 3 to 5 years' experience in sales/distribution of structural fasteners. 3 to 5 years' experience in the construction, manufacturing, or structural steel fabrication industries required. Ability to read and understand material specifications, dimensions, and basic fabrication drawings required. Strong organizational and follow-up skills. Effective supplier negotiation and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines. Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
