Job Description

Sourcing Manager Location:
Michigan, Jackson. Remote- with the understanding they may be asked to travel to Jackson as needed.

Hours Pay:
$45/hr - $50/hr (DOE) The Planet Group is looking for a Sourcing Manager who will function as a strategic sourcing lead focused on utility metering, grid modernization, and AMI-related initiatives. The individual must be capable of independently managing sourcing projects, leading cross-functional stakeholder engagement, evaluating complex technical solutions, and developing supplier strategies that support long-term operational and customer experience objectives. Qualifications:
5+ years of sourcing, category management, procurement, supplier management, or project delivery experience supporting utility Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) programs. Demonstrated experience sourcing and managing suppliers supporting: Smart electric meters Smart gas meters Meter communication networks Meter data management (MDM) platforms AMI installation and field deployment services Grid modernization technologies Experience supporting large-scale utility meter deployment, meter replacement, or AMI modernization initiatives.
Skills:
Desired Technical Knowledge Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Smart electric and gas metering technologies RF mesh, cellular, and hybrid communication networks Meter Data Management (MDM) systems Utility operations and distribution systems Demand response and interval data applications Utility regulatory and compliance considerations Large-scale field deployment and workforce management programs
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Business, Engineering, Information Technology, Procurement, Supply Chain Management, or other. 2-4 years of relevant experience required
Preferred:
Certified Purchasing Professional (CPP), Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) or Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) Project Management Sourcing Manager |
Responsibilities:
Partner with business stakeholders across Metering, Operations, Engineering, IT, and Program Management to develop sourcing strategies supporting AMI initiatives. Lead competitive sourcing events, supplier negotiations, contract development, and commercial evaluations for AMI-related products and services. Assess supplier capabilities, technology roadmaps, implementation approaches, and total cost of ownership to support strategic sourcing decisions. Develop and maintain market intelligence regarding AMI technologies, metering platforms, communication networks, and industry trends. Identify opportunities to improve reliability, operational efficiency, customer experience, data analytics capabilities, and lifecycle costs through supplier solutions. Support governance reviews, sourcing forums, and phase-gate activities by preparing comprehensive business cases and supplier recommendations. Track supplier performance against cost, schedule, quality, safety, innovation, and implementation objectives.
