Job Overview We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Technical Procurement Manager to lead our procurement initiatives within a complex supply chain environment. This role is pivotal in driving sourcing strategies, managing vendor relationships, and ensuring the seamless acquisition of goods and services essential for operational excellence. The ideal candidate will possess a robust understanding of procurement processes, contract negotiation, and supply chain management, with a focus on leveraging ERP systems to optimize procurement workflows. Key Responsibilities Technical Procurement & Supplier Management Lead and manage day-to-day procurement activities supporting manufacturing and company operations. Identify, evaluate, and develop new and existing suppliers. Request, review, and negotiate supplier quotations, pricing, lead times, payment terms, and delivery requirements. Purchase materials, components, tooling, equipment, outside processing, and other services required by the organization. Evaluate suppliers based on cost, quality, technical capability, capacity, delivery, and responsiveness. Develop strong relationships with strategic suppliers and service providers. Monitor supplier performance and address cost, quality, delivery, and technical issues. Identify alternative suppliers, materials, and processes when appropriate. Maintain accurate purchasing information and documentation within the ERP system. Manufacturing & Technical Support Work directly with Engineering and Production to understand technical and manufacturing requirements. Review and interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, specifications, bills of material, and other technical documentation. Evaluate supplier quotations for technical compliance as well as price. Assist in determining whether materials, components, and outside processes are appropriate for specific manufacturing requirements. Work with Engineering and Production to evaluate new materials, components, equipment, tooling, and manufacturing processes. Identify potential technical or material issues that could affect production and work with appropriate departments to resolve them. Materials & Production Support Analyze current and future material requirements and availability. Work with Production and Planning to anticipate material needs and potential shortages. Monitor supplier lead times and communicate potential production impacts. Assist with inventory planning and identify opportunities to reduce excess or obsolete inventory. Coordinate procurement activities with production schedules and customer requirements. Help ensure materials and outside services are available when needed to maintain production flow. Cost Management & Continuous Improvement Analyze purchasing data, market conditions, supplier pricing, and material costs. Identify and implement cost-reduction opportunities. Evaluate total cost, including purchase price, quality, freight, lead time, processing, and supplier performance. Identify opportunities to improve procurement and manufacturing processes. Support Lean Manufacturing and 5S initiatives. Participate in continuous improvement and problem-solving activities. Provide Management with recommendations regarding suppliers, materials, equipment, processes, and purchasing strategies. Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration Serve as the primary connection between Procurement, Engineering, Production, Quality, Sales, and Finance. Establish and maintain effective procurement processes and procedures. Provide direction and leadership to purchasing activities and personnel, as assigned. Establish priorities and ensure purchasing requirements are completed accurately and on time. Communicate supplier, material, cost, and production risks to Management. Participate in cross-functional meetings and problem-solving activities. Develop purchasing strategies that support the company's overall manufacturing and financial objectives. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications & Experience Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field preferred. Associate degree with significant relevant manufacturing or procurement experience may be considered. 3-5 years of experience in technical procurement, purchasing, manufacturing engineering, supply chain, production planning, or a related manufacturing environment. Manufacturing experience strongly preferred. Experience working with suppliers of machined, fabricated, engineered, or custom-manufactured components preferred. Strong understanding of manufacturing, quality control, inventory, and production planning processes. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, specifications, and bills of material. Understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, machining, fabrication, and outside processing preferred. Experience working with an ERP system. Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel. Strong analytical, negotiation, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with engineers, production personnel, suppliers, and company leadership. Develop and maintain capable and competitive suppliers. Improve supplier cost, quality, and delivery performance. Identify meaningful cost-saving opportunities. Support Engineering and Production in resolving technical and material-related issues. Improve purchasing and procurement processes. Reduce unnecessary inventory and purchasing costs. Make purchasing decisions based on technical requirements, quality, delivery, and total cost, not price alone. Establish effective communication between Procurement, Engineering, Production, Quality, and Management.
Pay:
$62,228.82 - $80,000.00 per year
