Purchasing Manager Structural Steel Fabrication

Position Overview We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Purchasing Manager to oversee procurement operations for our structural steel fabrication facility. This role is responsible for sourcing materials, managing vendor relationships, coordinating purchasing activities, and ensuring timely delivery of materials to support fabrication schedules and project deadlines. The ideal candidate will have experience in the structural steel industry and a strong understanding of fabrication operations, inventory management, and procurement systems. Experience with StruMIS is highly preferred. Responsibilities

• Manage purchasing activities for structural steel fabrication operations
• Source and procure structural steel materials, plate, beams, tubing, miscellaneous metals, welding consumables, bolts, hardware, and fabrication-related materials
• Utilize StruMIS for material tracking, purchasing coordination, inventory management, and reporting
• Coordinate with project management, detailing, and production teams to ensure material availability
• Review bills of materials, fabrication drawings, and project specifications for purchasing requirements
• Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers and vendors
• Negotiate pricing, lead times, and purchasing agreements
• Monitor steel pricing trends and supply chain conditions
• Track purchase orders and ensure on-time deliveries
• Resolve vendor discrepancies, shortages, and delivery issues
• Maintain accurate purchasing records and inventory data
• Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality and schedule requirements
• Support fabrication schedules through effective procurement planning Required Qualifications
• Minimum 5 years of purchasing or procurement experience
• Experience in structural steel fabrication, construction, or manufacturing preferred
• Strong understanding of structural steel materials and fabrication processes
• Experience using ERP or inventory management systems
• Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and material take-offs
• Strong organizational, communication, and negotiation skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with StruMIS software strongly preferred
• Experience working in an AISC Certified fabrication environment
• Knowledge of inventory control and material traceability practices
• Familiarity with steel market pricing and vendor management

Pay:

$65,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
