Job Description /Essential Elements:
PrintJOB DESCRIPTION
Under general supervision in a classroom setting or special learning center, assists in the delivery of an instructional program of prescribed learning objectives to students in the Resource Specialist Program.POSITION IN THE ORGANIZATION
Reports to: Site Principal or DesigneeSPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists in monitoring student progress and assists in recording progress of students in Resource Specialist Program
- Assists in scheduling SST/IEP team meetings, including agenda preparation, distribution, and notification
- Assists in coordinating RSP students' special educational services with regular school program
- Maintains records, including typing and filing of paperwork and documents in students' files
- Assists and coordinates IEP activities of children in regular classrooms
- Assists Resource Specialist in monitoring of IEP
- Follows through on instructional prescriptions with pupils
- Assists in guiding students or providing an example of the academic, social/emotional, or psychomotor areas
- Assists in helping students understand their weaknesses and to work toward improving their skills in areas where specific needs have been diagnosed
- Assists students in the Resource Specialist Program to become more self-reliant and to relate to individuals or groups
- Prepares materials and uses media as needed in classroom or special learning center
- Assists in classroom and outdoor activities
- Performs any other work as assigned
- Establishes and maintains good working relationships with others
- Participates in workshops and in-service as required
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school and two years of college, including at least one course related to teaching children, such as psychology or child development and one course with its major emphasis on educating the special education students, or one year of paid or two years volunteer experience working with students. Type 30 words per minute. Must pass proficiency test as legislated by the State of California.SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of basic elements of child growth and development
- Ability to work with students identified and placed in the Resource Specialist Program
- Ability to deal effectively with children in situations requiring poise and patience
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers and parents
- Ability to perform general clerical duties
- Must be physically fit to lead and participate in a variety of vigorous activities
- Ability to see well enough to read fine print and see conditions relating to the safety of self and others
- Ability to speak in an indoor and outdoor setting well enough to project voice throughout classroom, playground, multipurpose room and telephone
- Ability to hear well enough to converse on telephone and in person, and to hear conditions relating to safety of others and self
- Strength to lift/carry equipment/supplies/children up to 50 pounds
- Must have adequate body movement and motion to stoop, bend, reach, climb and move swiftly to respond to emergency
