POSITION SUMMARY
The STEAM Coordinator is a self-directed, goals-oriented professional responsible for developing, communicating, implementing, and supporting engaging STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) programs across multiple age groups. Overseeing and providing guidance to interns and ensuring the safe and appropriate use of BGCC equipment, supplies, and resources. This role ensures high-quality program delivery, accurate data reporting, and a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for youth. STEAM Coordinator shall seek out additional opportunities for members through community partners and relationships. The position is based primarily at the Gene Haas STEAM Center at the Boys & Girls Club of Camarillo.
KEY ROLES
(Essential Job Responsibilities):
  • Design and implement a comprehensive STEAM program with goals and objectives for youth grades 4th
  • 12th.
Collaborate and coordinate with Director of Programs, Teen & Youth Specialists, and other staff on program ideas, impact goals, strategies for youth success, and collaborate to address issues with participation and behavior. Encourage and elevate youth input to identify those STEAM programs youth would most like to participate in. Facilitate and support experiential STEAM activities including robotics, manufacturing, maker-projects, coding, arts, digital media, and enrichment programming. Always ensure a clean, organized, and professional environment for youth and staff that is physically and emotionally safe, free from bullying and physical, sexual, verbal, and emotional abuse, and supportive of a positive learning environment. Provide staff, interns, and volunteers training, resources, and direction to ensure a safe, consistent, and effective facilitation of STEAM programs. Coordinate with community partners for arts and STEAM-related enrichment such as STEM-Corps, and other STEAM related opportunities. Provide care, basic maintenance, and inventory of STEAM supplies and equipment ensuring materials are safe, functioning, and available for use. Promote STEAM opportunities to members to encourage participation. Partner with schools, museums, libraries, and community organizations to expand STEAM opportunities including field trips and special events. Support the planning and execution of STEAM showcase opportunities to show the youth's work and creativity. Build positive relationships with youth, families, and community partners to support engagement, participation, and youth success.
  • Manage youth behavior, reinforce Club rules, and model positive behavior and foster an inclusive, engaging environment for all youth.
  • Track, document, and report relevant data regarding youth participation, increased learning, and goal attainment.
  • Prepare and conduct youth surveys to gauge STEAM interest, progress made, and evaluate program impact.
Attend required training, staff meetings, and special events. Assist in other program areas as needed and perform additional duties as assigned. Additional tasks as needed.
RELATIONSHIPS
§
Internal:
Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain or interpret guidelines/instructions. §
External:
Maintains contact as needed with external community groups, schools, members' parents and others to assist in resolving problems.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS
College degree preferred in STEM fields, or equivalent experience in youth development, STEAM, or related fields.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in youth development.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in STEAM education or enrichment programming.
  • Strong working knowledge of Boys & Girls Clubs programs, national initiatives, and mission.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead staff, coordinate across teams, and foster inclusive, youth-centered environments.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills for diverse audiences.
  • Ability to engage and motivate youth, manage behavior, and create an inclusive learning environment.
  • A collaborative team player who can also work independently.
  • Valid State Driver's License
PHYSICAL, MENTAL/WORK REQUIREMENTS
  • The mobility to stand, stoop, kneel, reach and bend.
  • Ability to participate as a facilitator, coach or participant in programs for the duration of activity or event.
  • Ability to move up to 25 lbs. on occasion.
  • Requires ability to work using computers and review detailed documents and data.
  • Able to communicate effectively with youth, staff, parents, and community partners, including exchanging accurate information in person, by phone, and electronically.
  • Ability to transverse across a variety of indoor and outdoor surfaces.
