Background:
The Center for Human Development (CHD) is a nonprofit organization that empowers individuals and communities to rise above systemic challenges through prevention education, capacity building, and youth leadership development. We are committed to equity, justice, and creating healthier futures for all. Youth initiatives provided by the Center for Human Development include prevention, support, and skill-building services for at-risk youth ages 12-18 in Contra Costa County. Through school- and community-based programming, these initiatives promote healthy development, substance use prevention, violence reduction, and supportive environments for LGBTQIA+ youth. Programs incorporate evidence-based curricula, youth development strategies, mentoring, and supportive group activities designed to strengthen resilience, improve decision-making, and connect youth to supportive resources.
Job Description:
The Program Supervisor will oversee and supervise four (4) Program Coordinators delivering various prevention education programs and youth development services at school campuses or youth center settings: 1. Healthy Futures for Youth Project (HFYP) is a substance abuse and gang/violence prevention program serving at-risk youth ages 12 to 18 in Contra Costa County. Through evidence-based prevention curricula, HFYP supports personal development, health education, and skills for resisting risky behaviors. 2. Empowerment provides "safe place" programming for LGBTQIA+ middle and high school age youth, including weekly support groups, life skills, leadership development, individual check-ins and mentoring, and access to resources and referrals. 3. QscOUTS is a program for middle and high school youth who identify as LGBTQIA+ and allies, focused on building community, developing healthy peer relationships, and discovering self in a caring and nurturing environment. 4. Beyond Violence is a service designed to help youth and their families reduce the risk of victimization, promote post trauma growth, decrease psychological stress, and improve quality of live. The supervisor ensures program quality, curriculum fidelity, effective program coordination, community engagement and relationships with school and youth centers staff in the delivery of a variety of services: assessment, small-group sessions focused on behavioral health and gang prevention, brief intervention, youth development, and wellness advocacy. The ideal candidate is highly organized, goal-oriented, data-driven, and experienced with youth engagement, group inclusion and facilitation, culturally responsive and trauma-informed approaches, and is passionate about prevention and equity work.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Establish and maintain program objectives and work plans to ensure contract deliverables are met. Adapt curriculum to meet group needs while maintaining fidelity to core evidence-based components. Ensure "safe" and confidential conditions for trauma-informed sessions in schools, community centers, CHD offices, and virtual platforms. Model best practices in facilitation, classroom management, and youth empowerment. Provide coaching, mentorship, and oversight to a team of Program Coordinators or interns. Facilitate weekly check-ins and supervision. Develop MOUs and rapport with school sites, community organizations, and referral partners. Coordinate program schedules and session logistics with school administrators and staff. Build and maintain strong community partnerships to expand program(s) reach and visibility. Oversee the administering of pre- and post-surveys, self-assessments, and observation tools to assess program impact. Monitor data trends and provide feedback to improve program strategies and outcomes. Support timely reporting and documentation required for funders and evaluation partners. Input data into the agency database system. Conduct individualized follow-ups and check-ins with youth participants as needed. Monitor "warm handoffs" to supportive services for youth needing additional behavioral health or substance use support. Broker agreements to launch youth participation in school wide campaigns to reduce stigma and raise awareness. Provide program budget oversight.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated skills in employee supervision, development, and training. Demonstrated cultural humility and ability to work effectively with diverse populations. Comprehensive knowledge of youth development, community health promotion, and prevention principles and practices; Strong understanding of substance abuse prevention, and trauma-informed care. Strong listening, verbal, and written communication skills. Experience coordinating and facilitating programs and workshops. Ability to organize and set priorities. Ability to work independently and as a team. Ability to address and resolve conflict in a professional manner Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Zoom, and basic data entry systems. Valid CA Driver's License, access to reliable transportation, and ability to travel within the county.
Credentials and Experience:
Associate degree or bachelor's degree in health, human services, or related field preferred. Two to three (2-3) years' experience with youth and families, and in substance abuse prevention or related fields. Experience working with diverse communities.
