Job Description

The anticipated start date for this open position is December 8, 2025 . Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of youth? Higher Ground Youth & Family Services is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing youth and families with purpose and possibilities through mentorship, family wraparound care, and community education. We are seeking dynamic and dedicated individuals to join our team as Part-Time Lead Mentors at our sites in Fullerton. As a Lead Mentor, you will play an impactful role in shaping the lives of elementary school students by serving as a positive role model and guiding youth through structured activities in academics, arts, digital media, sports, and life skills development. We are looking for mentors motivated to connect with children in authentic and innovative ways. The ideal candidate brings compassion, empathy, patience, and authenticity, along with strong classroom management, organizational, and communication skills. Schedule (approx. 22 hours/week)
Monday:
2pm-6pm
Tuesday:
2pm-6pm
Wednesdays:
12pm-6pm
Thursdays:
2pm-6pm
Fridays:
2pm-6pm
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as a consistent positive role model, maintaining clear boundaries and expectations. Supervise and engage youth during structured activities and transition periods. Keep accurate accountability of students throughout program hours. Use de-escalation strategies, conflict resolution, and restorative practices to address behavioral challenges. Empower youth to develop problem-solving, self-regulation, and peer relationship skills. Communicate clearly and professionally with students, parents, colleagues, and school staff. Collaborate with fellow Lead Mentors and Youth Mentor interns to ensure smooth program delivery. Adapt to changes in schedules, environments, or student needs with flexibility and resilience. Uphold program policies, safety protocols, and daily routines to create a safe, structured environment. Participate in regular staff meetings and contribute to a team-oriented culture. Qualifications & Requirements Must be 18 years Complete a Background Check Strong oral communication skills and ability to engage effectively with youth Passion for youth mentorship and a commitment to creating positive experience Strong classroom management, organization, and leadership skills. Capacity to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently when needed. Must be able to travel to other locations and grades as needed for programming
