Elementary School Academy (ESA) Program Leader Reports to: Mission Bay ESA Program Manager Work type & schedule: Part-time, Monday-Friday approximately 1:30pm-6pm

Focusing on low-moderate income children, youth, families, and seniors, TEL HI creates and strengthen community bonds, provides health and wellness programs, and broadens educational and cultural experiences. With its diverse array of program services in multiple locations, TEL HI serves approximately 1500 individuals daily. Mission Bay ESA (Elementary School Academy) is TEL HI's after-school program located at Mission Bay Elementary School. The program provides academic support, enrichment opportunities, recreation, STEAM activities, and social-emotional learning in a safe, engaging, and inclusive environment for students and families.
Position Overview:
The ESA Program Leader works closely with the Mission Bay ESA Program Manager and fellow staff to support the daily operations of the after-school program. Program Leaders are responsible for creating a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment where students can learn, build relationships, and grow socially and academically. As part of the inaugural year of Mission Bay ESA, Program Leaders will play an important role in helping build and shape a brand new program community, culture, and student experience. Staff will collaborate with the Program Manager to help establish routines, traditions, enrichment opportunities, and a positive after-school environment for students and families.
Position Responsibilities:
Assist the Mission Bay ESA Program Manager and leadership team with daily program operations and supervision of youth. Support the launch and growth of Mission Bay ESA during Year 1 of the program by helping create a positive program culture, routines, and student engagement practices. Design, create and implement enrichment activities that will support social and academic progress. Enrichment activities include (but are not limited to) arts, science, theater, media, recreation, music, dance, gardening, community service and youth leadership. Lead activities, learning games, and small group tutoring. Pick-up & walk youth from partnered schools to center. Ensure a safe and positive environment. Foster and maintain appropriate relationships with children, their families, and staff. Work to increase academic achievement through providing academic support, homework assistance, and individualized tutoring. Observe and evaluate children's needs and progress. Follow-up with appropriate action including discussions with staff and communication with parents. Participate in individual supervision, staff meetings, and organization trainings. Maintain the cleanliness and organization of space utilized by program. Support fundraising efforts as needed to strengthen and sustain TEL HI programs. Additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
Experience working with youth. Understanding of youth development philosophy and current best practices. Bilingual candidates in Chinese/English or Spanish/English are strongly encouraged to apply.
Education and Experience:
The qualified candidates will possess any combination equivalent to a high school diploma supplemented by college-level course work in child development or related field and two years experience in an educational program providing direct service to youths. Teaching experience is preferred. DOJ, FBI, Child Abuse Index, TB clearance, and immunization records are required .
Pay:
$23.00 - $25.00 per hour
