POSITION SUMMARY
One Community Action (OCA) seeks a Youth Organizer committed to social justice, youth leadership, community organizing, and advocacy. The Youth Organizer will engage and mobilize youth ages 12-18, particularly Latinx, Indigenous, LGBTQ+, migrant, low-income, and farmworker youth, to address issues affecting their well-being and communities. The Youth Organizer will oversee the Sembradores Youth Council, support the North County Youth Leaders collaboration, and develop outreach, leadership-development, civic-engagement, and organizing strategies that advance culturally responsive, youth-led solutions for BIPOC youth on California's Central Coast. Key Responsibilities Youth Engagement and Wellness Recruit, onboard, and maintain an engaged base of youth participants. Facilitate youth meetings, peer-support groups, healing circles, and workshops Provide culturally responsive and trauma-informed support and connect youth and families with appropriate resources. Create safe and inclusive spaces that foster belonging, confidence, creative expression, racial healing, and social-emotional well-being. Youth Leadership and Civic Engagement Oversee the Sembradores Youth Council, including meetings, elections, bylaws, officer roles, leadership activities, outings, training, and technical assistance. Train and support council members in governance, officer responsibilities, meeting procedures, Robert's Rules of Order, the Brown Act, and civic processes. Develop and facilitate workshops addressing leadership, teamwork, BIPOC history, racial healing, systemic inequities, decolonization, and community organizing. Coordinate youth civic-engagement activities, including Agenda Labs, public-comment preparation, civic-leadership interviews, internships, and other opportunities that expose youth to local government and policymaking. Prepare and support youth to communicate their concerns, recommendations, and lived experiences through public comments, presentations, meetings, and advocacy activities. Community Organizing and Advocacy Develop and implement youth outreach, communication, civic-engagement, and organizing plans. Mobilize youth and community members to participate in advocacy campaigns, public meetings, and other organizing efforts. Facilitate youth-led processes to identify community priorities and develop policy, systems, and environmental change strategies addressing the root causes of substance use and other issues affecting BIPOC youth. Support youth in developing and advancing culturally responsive solutions within school districts, local governments, law-enforcement agencies, and other institutions. Develop and maintain the North County Youth Leaders collaboration and build coalitions with schools, community organizations, institutions, and advocacy groups. Program Administration and Communications Maintain accurate and timely records of youth enrollment, participation, mentorship, meetings, volunteer hours, partnerships, organizing activities, and program outcomes. Administer and maintain required evaluation tools, including pre- and post-surveys, leadership assessments, attendance records, leadership portfolios, and other records. Maintain secure physical and digital files and safeguard confidential and personally identifiable information in accordance with OCA policies. Create program flyers, social media content, announcements, presentations, and other outreach and communication materials. Attend program and agency staff meetings, professional-development opportunities, and training required by OCA or its funders. Perform other related duties as assigned. Required Qualifications At least two years of relevant experience in youth development, advocacy, community organizing, public policy, or nonprofit community services. Bilingual and bicultural in English and Spanish; An Indigenous language is a plus. Understanding of, or willingness to learn about, racial equity, systemic oppression, decolonization, and trauma-informed practices. Strong written, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, exercise sound judgment, and respond appropriately during emergencies or crises. Proficiency with Google Workspace, Zoom, social media, and other digital platforms. Valid CA driver's license, automobile liability insurance, and reliable transportation. Ability to pass a Department of Justice background check & TB test. Ability to fulfill all responsibilities associated with being a mandated reporter. Physical Requirements and Work Environment Ability to regularly sit, stand, bend, stoop, and lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends based on program and organizational needs. Ability to work in office, school, community, and outdoor settings.
