This position provides leadership on legal policy development, systems advocacy, and comprehensive advocacy training. The Director of Legal Advocacy is a leading voice of victims interacting with the legal systems. Specific Responsibilities Family Violence Victim Advocate (FVVA) Program As the chief administrator of the FVVA program with oversight of certified advocates and their supervisors working within member organizations to support victim safety and needs, this position will: Provide training, technical assistance, comprehensive advocacy, systems advocacy, and reporting and data collection through a racial and gender equity lens. Work with other CCADV staff to identify, develop, and coordinate strategies that ensure CCADV's systemic approach to legal advocacy is defined by diverse survivor experiences. Provide ongoing grant management to the FVVA program, including developing grant proposals and ensuring timely reporting, assisting CCADV's leadership team in identifying additional funding opportunities to address legal advocacy needs, and participating in all resulting grant development efforts. Collaborate with member organizations and build strong, positive relationships, conducting program monitoring through regular site visits to provide ongoing technical assistance and guidance to advocates and their supervisors with an aim to strongly enhance program capacity and ensure contract compliance. Identify and address the on-going training and resource needs of the member organizations with specific focus on the FVVA program through the facilitation of quarterly FVVA cohort meetings and facilitation or coordination of relevant trainings to ensure best practices within member services. Initiate, build, and maintain positive and strategic relationships with various stakeholders including funders, governmental and non-governmental agencies, and project evaluators to ensure they are informed around domestic violence and possess a workable understanding of the FVVA program. Other Activities Oversee the implementation of Coalition initiatives that strengthen the FVVA program and address the legal needs of victims including, but not limited to, the Pro Bono Restraining Order Project (PBRO), Family Law & Immigration Legal Consult programs , and CCADV's contract related to the statewide Domestic Violence GPS Program including recruiting, training, onboarding, and supervising staff, and all associated project reporting. Ensure that reports associated with this position and that are submitted to project funder(s) are accurate, informative, and impactful. Continuously identify data and narrative outside of funder requirements which serve to assess and define victim experiences, needs and trends, working closely with other CCADV staff to ensure that those data points are defined and captured in various data platforms utilized by the Coalition. Maintain central office files of meeting agendas, minutes, correspondence, and plans; manage a viable system to ensure agenda and minutes are developed and disseminated in a timely manner to CCADV member programs and to other parties in accordance with CCADV's plans. Participate in the development of legislative policy initiatives related to the legal needs of victims. Participate with the Domestic Violence Criminal Justice Response and Enhancement Advisory Council and represent CCADV on related task forces, workgroups, and committees, and at state and national meetings, events, and conferences as assigned. Build effective, cooperative, positive relationships with co-workers and actively participate in the daily operations of CCADV. Adapt to changing job priorities in accordance with CCADV's needs, remaining positive and open to innovative ideas and developing new skills as needed. Accept personal accountability in the fulfillment of CCADV's objectives and adherence to policies. Support CCADV's leadership team and its Board of Directors. Travel as required.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree, master's degree preferred. A minimum of 3-5 years working in the field of domestic violence specifically around the court-based/legal needs of victims. Possesses a deep commitment to victim-defined, trauma responsive, comprehensive advocacy, and diversity, equity, and inclusion practices. Knowledge of Connecticut criminal and civil legal practices and procedures. Ability to organize and influence a diverse group of individuals to achieve a common goal, communicating clear expectations, providing feedback, and recognizing efforts and celebrating successes. Ability to provide victim-defined policy analysis, development, and advocacy. Demonstrated experience and expertise in planning and program development. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups and individuals. Critical and strategic thinker with strong organizational, communication, public speaking, and writing skills. Successful as a team player yet adept at self-direction. Adapts to changing job priorities and remains open to constructive supervision, innovative ideas, and the development of new skills. Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel with a willingness to learn and navigate various database platforms. Understanding of and commitment to CCADV's mission, as well as, understanding of issues related to domestic violence.
Pay:
$75,000.00 - $78,000.00 per year
