Job Description

EASTCONN's Transition Academy located in Willimantic, CT. is recruiting for a Student Support Specialist II to assist students and other classroom staff to promote a safe and healthy environment for learning. This position works under the supervision of a Special Education Teacher or other certified staff who assigns tasks and reviews work upon completion.

EASTCONN's Transition Program is designed to help students with disabilities between the ages of 18 and 21 make a successful transition from school to adult life. The program focuses on developing the skills needed for independent living, vocational training, and community integration. Students receive personalized support in areas such as employment, social skills, and daily living activities. The program works collaboratively with families and local agencies to ensure a smooth transition to adulthood, emphasizing self-advocacy and real-world experience to prepare students for life beyond the classroom.

Required Qualifications:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education:

High School Diploma or GED, and

Experience:

Employment as a Student Support Specialist I or comparable position.

Or:

Combination of education and experience that is a substantial equivalent to the above education and experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. As required by the assigned program: Within six (6) months of appointment, must successfully obtain and maintain certification in the relevant crisis management procedure implemented by the program to which they are assigned (e.g., Safety Care or PMT).

2. Depending on

Program:

Complete and maintain certification for First Aid and CPR.

3. Per program's or school's fidelity measures and expectations: Continually meet satisfactory criteria in 75% or more of assessed categories pertaining to student programming implementation.

4. Other specific program requirements.

Compensation:

Placement within the range is based on factors including education, experience, licensure/certification, internal equity, and applicable collective bargaining agreements, where applicable.
