- Full-time Position Summary The Afterschool Program Coordinator supports the day-to-day implementation of the organization's afterschool literacy tutoring programs.
Reporting directly to the Program Director, this role is responsible for overseeing afterschool site operations, managing site coordinators and volunteers, coordinating schedules and staffing, supporting assessment planning, and maintaining strong relationships with aftercare site directors and community partners. The Afterschool Program Coordinator plays a key role in ensuring program fidelity, consistent volunteer support, and smooth site-level operations across all afterschool locations. This position requires regular commuting between program sites and may require occasional out-of-town travel, and the ability to work occasional weekend shifts as needed. Key Responsibilities 1. Program Operations & Site Management Conduct regular site visits and fidelity checks at afterschool program locations to ensure alignment with Great Leaps curriculum and program expectations. Monitor attendance and participation across afterschool sites to ensure consistent and quality program delivery. Work with the scheduler to staff and organize volunteers across sites, including coordinating coverage for new sites, tutor replacements, and shifting program needs. Coordinate student-tutor matching and site placements for afterschool programs in collaboration with the scheduler and Program Director. Support troubleshooting and problem-solving at the site level to address operational challenges as they arise. Communicate regularly with the Program Director to report on site operations, flag concerns, and align priorities. Support coordination and site operations for future adult literacy programming and other programs. 2. People Management & Development Oversee site coordinator performance, attendance, and daily responsibilities across all afterschool program locations. Welcome and orient new volunteers on their first day — introducing them to site staff, distributing name tags and t-shirts, and setting clear expectations for site procedures. Lead on-site tutor and volunteer training in coordination with the Program Director, equipping staff with the instructional strategies and program knowledge needed to be effective. Provide ongoing coaching and feedback to site coordinators to strengthen their leadership and program delivery. Support the Program Director with broader training sessions as needed. 3. Assessment & Data Management Collaborate with the Literacy Specialist and Program Director on assessment planning and scheduling for afterschool sites, including coordinating logistics for beginning-of-year, mid-year, and end-of-year benchmarking. Conduct weekly review and monitoring of data entry for afterschool sites to ensure student progress data is accurately and consistently recorded. Support data collection and reporting efforts by ensuring site-level data is complete, timely, and aligned with program evaluation requirements. Participate in monthly and quarterly data reviews ("data chats") with program staff to analyze afterschool student progress and contribute to programmatic decision-making. 4. Partnerships & Community Engagement Build and maintain strong working relationships with aftercare site directors to support smooth program operations and ongoing collaboration. Serve as the primary day-to-day point of contact for afterschool partner sites, addressing scheduling, staffing, and logistical needs in a timely manner. Coordinate with partner organizations regarding student enrollment, site logistics, and assessment timelines in collaboration with the Program Director. Represent the organization professionally at partner sites and community settings, reflecting the organization's values and commitment to quality programming. Qualifications Bachelor's degree preferred; relevant experience in education, youth services, or nonprofit programming may be considered in lieu of degree. Experience working in afterschool programs, youth development, or a related educational setting. Previous experience with juvenile justice
- involved youth or adult learners preferred.
Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple sites and responsibilities simultaneously. Experience supervising or supporting volunteers, interns, or program staff. Familiarity with literacy instruction, tutoring programs, or student assessment practices preferred. Comfortable with data entry and basic data monitoring; experience with platforms such as Monday.com a plus. Reliable transportation and willingness to commute regularly between program sites. Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends as program needs require.
