Job Description

Summary:
Under the direction of the Program Supervisor, the Parent Support Specialist is responsible for program implementation and facilitation for any of these groups: (1) Hui Kāne; which provides support specifically to dads and other males. The curriculum selected for this program is the "24/7 Dad". (2) Papa Makua (Parenting through Hawaiian Values); which provides support specifically to Parents and Child Caregivers. Cohort style classes are held virtually for 10 - 12 weeks. Occasional 1:1 support to group participants may also be necessary as life challenges occur. Parent Support Specialist may also be assigned individual 1:1 participant caseloads to provide individualized services as deemed necessary by the Program Supervisor. The curriculum and services promote responsible, positive parent/child interaction, encourage parent involvement, and are age and culturally appropriate. The Parent Support Specialist is responsible for providing resources and referrals to participants.
Qualifications:
Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and access to a vehicle with insurance. Current TB clearance. Ability to work with diverse populations with respect and sensitivity. Proficiency in using Microsoft Office, Google Docs, Zoom and office equipment. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multi-task.

Education and Experience:
High School Diploma/GED required. Bachelor's degree in human services or related field preferred. Previous experience in Public Speaking and Group Facilitation. Demonstrated experience in effectively engaging and working with at-risk individuals/families; ability and demonstrated effectiveness and experience engaging at-risk individuals/families; ability to establish and maintain approaches to ensure gender relevance. Knowledge of local community resources.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
Direct Services:
Outreach and Group 1. Establishes a trusting relationship with participants by initiating and maintaining regular participant contact and by maintaining a flexible schedule as groups are usually held in the evenings. Groups may also be held on the weekends to accommodate a specific population. 2. Develops and implements a creative outreach plan; including places frequented by group-specific participants, including homeless parents and parents with special needs, and through a multi-media approach. Responsible for ensuring outreach to the public; which may include repeated and regular scheduled calls and visits to agency offices, distribution of group fliers, and other printed material in our Maui County communities. 3. Coordinates and facilitates a safe and non-judgmental group for parent-specific participants. Virtual groups currently done on Zoom is the main venue used. However, in-person groups may be necessary as well.
Arranges:
Set-up of physical environment; Speaker curriculum, if needed. Performs other duties that may be required to enhance the Group's success (i.e. food preparation, shopping, etc.) 4. Has working knowledge of parenting strategies, child development materials, and dynamics of child abuse and neglect. Applies this information in working with participants. 5. Provides education and support to large and small groups of participants on Relationships, Independence, Competence, Creativity, and Optimism. 6. Contacts community agencies and participate in community health and/or educational fairs. 7. Solicits and encourages participant feedback, through evaluation, in the design and development of the program. Implements improvement based on communication from participants. 8. Coordinates and facilitates groups at MFSS sites regarding parenting and life skills. 9. Meets with the Program Supervisor weekly for individual Supervision and monthly for Program Team meetings. During implementation phases, the program team may meet weekly. 10. Collaborates with other MFSS staff to co-facilitate groups. 11. Collects and maintains necessary data for completion of grant reports according to designated grant timelines. 12. Reviews and reports on progress in meeting program objectives. 13. Maintains confidentiality of records and all related information. Signs and agrees to a confidentiality agreement. 14. Demonstrates knowledge of community resources and uses these appropriately to meet the needs of participants and the program. 15. Demonstrates organizational skills independently managing workload and related responsibilities, including planning and evaluating with participants the activities for groups. 16.

Records pertinent information related to participants and their families such as observations made, activities conducted and interventions used to address stress reduction. 19. Performs other related duties as assigned.

$37,369.51 - $44,909.13 per year
