Part-Time Family Shelter Intake & Support Specialist Make a meaningful difference for families working toward safety, stability, and permanent housing. Human Services, Inc. is seeking a dependable, compassionate, and organized individual to join our Horizon House Emergency Family Shelter team as a Part-Time Family Shelter Intake & Support Specialist. This position plays an important role in supporting the daily operation of the shelter and helping families experiencing homelessness move toward greater stability. You will work directly with shelter participants, provide one-on-one coaching, help families identify goals, connect them with resources, and monitor their progress. The ideal candidate is someone who can build respectful relationships while maintaining professional boundaries, following agency procedures, completing accurate documentation, and responding calmly when situations are stressful or priorities change. This is a strong opportunity for someone interested in human services, social services, housing support, community outreach, or case-management work. What You'll Do Support the daily operations of Horizon House Emergency Family Shelter Welcome and assist families entering or residing in the shelter Provide one-on-one coaching and case-management support to participants Assess family needs and help participants develop practical goals and action plans Monitor participant progress and provide consistent follow-up Connect families with housing, employment, education, healthcare, childcare, transportation, food, benefits, and other community resources Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential participant documentation Communicate participant progress, concerns, and program needs to the Homeless Prevention Coordinator Build and maintain positive relationships with service providers, community organizations, and the public Assist with shelter projects, maintenance coordination, fundraising preparation, and community events Support and assist other shelter staff as needed Help ensure that all participants are treated fairly, respectfully, and without discrimination Follow agency policies, shelter procedures, safety requirements, and confidentiality standards You May Be a Great Fit If You Are Compassionate and respectful when working with families experiencing homelessness Dependable and able to work a variable part-time schedule Comfortable working with individuals who may be experiencing stress, uncertainty, or crisis Able to balance empathy with accountability and professional boundaries Organized and able to manage multiple responsibilities, follow-ups, and deadlines Detail-oriented and committed to accurate documentation A clear and professional communicator Comfortable working independently and making sound decisions Skilled at building relationships with community partners and service providers Flexible and able to adjust when priorities or participant needs change Comfortable using computers, email, databases, and standard office equipment Willing to assist with a variety of shelter and program needs Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Ability to pass a criminal history check and drug screen Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment Ability to complete occasional local travel Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds Schedule and Position Details Part-time, non-exempt position Variable hours based on shelter and program needs This position is not eligible for benefits, paid time off, or vacation time Requests for time off require supervisor approval Why This Work Matters Families entering an emergency shelter are often navigating one of the most challenging periods of their lives. Pay:
