Duties and Responsibilities:
Supports the Disaster Action Team, the "boots on the ground" volunteers. Duty Officers serve as dispatchers who help evaluate the calls for assistance that come to the Red Cross. Duty Officers take on-call shifts ready to receive calls for assistance from the community (e.g. clients, fire departments, other agencies) from across Louisiana. Their mission is to gather essential elements of information to ensure calls qualify for Red Cross assistance and lay the groundwork for success for the Disaster Action Team in the field. Duty Officers are trained to use the Red Cross Respond system to maintain thorough and accurate records of client interactions and anticipated services, to ensure successful Disaster Action Team engagements. Duty Officers maintain Red Cross response readiness and provide program support and collaboration with other response teams. Duty Officers exhibit a calm and compassionate demeanor with all clients and volunteer interactions and remain efficient and professional throughout. Minimum Requirements :
Applicant must be a current SoLAcc student, enrolled in a minimum of six (6) credit hours for the Fall 2026 semester and six (6) credit hours for the Spring 2027 semester and have a completed 2026-2027 FAFSA on file with SoLAcc. Applicants must also pass a criminal background screen.
