Job Description

Holyoke Public Schools is a PK-12 public school district serving 5,100 students, of whom 80 percent are Latino/Latina, in 14 schools. We employ nearly 1,300 people who together educate and support a richly diverse community of learners. The City of Holyoke, with a population of about 38,000 residents, is in Hampden County within the Pioneer Valley region of western Massachusetts. HPS was placed into receivership by the State of Massachusetts in Spring 2015 because of struggling performance. We have since implemented a Turnaround Plan that has led to expanded opportunities for students to explore the arts, sports, sciences, local and world cultures, early college and work-based learning. Since 2015, HPS has experienced numerous accomplishments for instance: A 14-point increase in the district's graduation rate; Doubling access to PreK programming; An 85 percent increase in access to early college programming; and A 15-point increase (to 28%) in teachers of color Reporting to the Assistant Superintendent, the Manager of Enrichment and Extended Learning is charged with developing and implementing varied and targeted enrichment and extended learning opportunities for the students in Holyoke, aligned with the priorities of the Turnaround Plan that will accelerate the improvement efforts in Holyoke. The Manager of Enrichment and Extended Learning will work with the schools and central office leadership to align and coordinate programming. This is an ideal position for an innovative, yet focused instructional leader/programmer with organizational and interpersonal skills to respond to and coordinate with a variety of stakeholders (students, families, school and district personnel, community members, partners, providers). The Manager of Enrichment and Extended Learning will work most closely with school leaders, and the Executive Director of Academics and the Chief of Pupil Services and their respective teams Responsibilities are aligned to the Turnaround Plan and include, but are not limited to: Leadership and Partnership Develop a vision and implementation plan for enrichment and extended programs for all students, which includes schoolyear after-school programming, enrichment programming as part of the full school day, vacation acceleration academies, summer school, and extended year programming for students with disabilities In partnership with academic directors and school-based leaders, lead the implementation of high quality, HPS aligned curriculum within all programming Seek, develop, and sustain partnerships with providers for additional enrichment and extended learning opportunities Provide regular and consistent supervision of extended and enrichment learning programs Provide regular and consistent feedback to extended and enrichment learning program leadership and staff Identify and support program leadership and staff through high quality professional development Support program and school leadership in response to personnel or student challenges (bullying investigations, Title IX investigations, discipline and attendance) Staff Development Recruit, hire, onboard and supervise after-school staff, Recruit and manage staff for additional programs, such as acceleration academies and summer school, in collaboration with school-based personnel Oversee the quality, evaluation and continuous improvement/development of all programs Grant Management and Development Oversee all current enrichment and extended learning grants and renewal, including the 21st Century Community Learning Center grants Research and obtain additional enrichment and extended learning grants Develop and write continuation grants, in coordination with the Finance department and schools Report to the Advisory Council and work with the Council on sustainability Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent/Receiver and Chief Academic Officer or as required to support enrichment and extended learning.
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
Experience, skills, traits, and beliefs: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution required; master's degree or additional professional certification preferred A minimum of three years of managerial and/or leadership experience Excellent managerial skills, with proven success managing and coaching/mentoring a team of professionals to ambitious goals Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to organize, guide and coordinate a variety of stakeholders toward a common goal Exceptional interpersonal skills, with a track record of working collaboratively with staff at all levels to build consensus while also delivering exceptional results Knowledge of best practices in tiered academic support, youth development and enrichment and extended time programming Proven experience with grant writing and creating and managing program budgets and contracts Commitment to high performance standards and unwavering belief that all students can excel Ability to be a bold, innovative, and engaging change agent and culture-creator; a visionary leader with a track record of inspiring and motivating those around them Prior experience as a highly effective educator preferred Belief in the HPS values
