Job Description

The Frederick County Division of Parks and Recreation is committed to the highest level of care of our natural and historic resources while making the park facilities and recreational programs available to all. POSITION DETAILS:
Non-exempt; part-time; approximately 2-10 hours per week depending on number of classes instructed ; program schedule and hours will vary and include weekend and evening hours; no-benefits This position plays a vital role in creating welcoming, inclusive spaces where teens can build friendships, explore new interests, and feel connected to their community. Instructors lead interactive activities, provide supportive mentorship, and model positive behavior to foster a strong sense of belonging and engagement. Successful candidates demonstrate professionalism, enthusiasm, and a commitment to positive youth development. This role works under the direction and supervision of the Recreation Specialist for Teen Programs. Lead and facilitate teen program activities Manage program setup, cleanup, and material organization Engage participants and encourage positive peer interactions Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment Monitor participant behavior and support conflict resolution as needed Take attendance and assist with basic recordkeeping Communicate professionally with teens, parents, and staff Provide observations feedback to Recreation Specialist of Teen Programs on participant engagement and program flow Perform other duties as assigned To perform this job successfully, an employee must be able to perform all essential functions satisfactorily. Minimum age 18 years Current certification in Community First Aid and CPR, or the ability to become certified before the program begins (certification must be maintained throughout employment)
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES
Ability to assist in activity facilitation and support program logistics Ability to communicate effectively with individuals Strong and effective spoken and written (English) communication skills Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills Willingness to learn and take direction from lead instructors Reliable, punctual, and able to maintain a positive attitude Comfortable engaging with teens in a variety of program settings
PREFERENCE MAY BE GIVEN FOR
Experience working with youth Ability and willingness to attend meetings or trainings Ability to provide own transportation as needed
KIND OF EXAMINATION
(may include): An evaluation of training and experience One or more interviews A pre-employment fingerprint supported background investigation
