Community Program Coordinator - Bucksport YMCA Down East Family YMCA Part-Time | 20-25 Hours per Week $20.00-$30.00 per Hour Additional summer hours may be available. About the Down East Family YMCA The Down East Family YMCA (DEFY) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening our communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Serving Hancock and western Washington counties through our Wiggins YMCA in Ellsworth, Blue Hill YMCA, and Bucksport YMCA, we strive to create opportunities for individuals and families to learn, grow, and thrive. We are seeking a passionate, organized, and community-focused Community Program Coordinator to lead recreation programming in Bucksport while working collaboratively with staff across all three YMCA branches. Position Summary The Community Program Coordinator is responsible for coordinating youth recreation programs, supporting afterschool programming, organizing community events, and serving as a liaison with local schools, municipal officials, and community partners. This position works closely with the Youth Sports Coordinators at the Blue Hill YMCA and Wiggins YMCA to ensure consistency, collaboration, and shared success across the Down East Family YMCA. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys building relationships, empowering volunteers, and creating meaningful experiences for local youth and families. Essential ResponsibilitiesYouth Recreation Programs Coordinate and oversee seasonal youth recreation programs, including: Soccer Basketball Flag Football Cheerleading Additional youth recreation opportunities as developed Recruit, train, schedule, and support volunteer coaches and program volunteers. Coordinate practice and game schedules. Manage program equipment, including ordering, inventory, maintenance, and distribution. Assist with participant registration and roster management. Ensure programs are safe, welcoming, organized, and aligned with YMCA values. Collaboration Across the YMCA Work collaboratively with the Youth Sports Coordinators at the Blue Hill YMCA and Wiggins YMCA to share ideas, resources, equipment, schedules, and best practices. Assist with association-wide recreation initiatives and special events when appropriate. Support a consistent, high-quality experience across all Down East Family YMCA locations. Afterschool Program Support Assist the Afterschool Program Coordinator with program operations as needed. Provide staffing support and substitute coverage during planned or unexpected staff absences. Help maintain a positive, safe, and engaging environment for participants. Community Events Coordinate and assist with community events, including: Road races Youth sports tournaments Family recreation events Other YMCA community initiatives Responsibilities include volunteer coordination, logistics, registration, setup, and event-day operations. Community Partnerships Serve as a liaison with the Town of Bucksport, RSU 25, and other community organizations. Coordinate the scheduling and use of shared facilities, including school gymnasiums, athletic fields, and municipal recreation spaces. Develop and maintain positive relationships that strengthen recreation opportunities throughout the community. Qualifications High school diploma required; associate's or bachelor's degree in recreation, education, sports management, or a related field preferred. Experience working with youth, recreation, athletics, education, or community organizations. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to recruit, motivate, and supervise volunteers. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with staff across multiple YMCA branches. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic online registration systems. CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain). Ability to work evenings and occasional weekends based on program schedules. Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 40 pounds. Ability to stand, walk, and actively participate in recreation programs for extended periods. Ability to transport, set up, and store recreation equipment. Schedule & Compensation 20-25 hours per week Flexible schedule including daytime, evening, and occasional weekend hours. $20.00-$30.00 per hour , depending on qualifications and experience.
