Job Description

Description:
The Program Coordinator of STEAM & Family Programs is a hands-on, direct-service role that develops curriculum, teaches classes, and grows participation in the YMCA's science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) programs and in family programs and events. Most of this position's hours are spent leading classes, workshops, and family activities. The Program Coordinator creates curious, hands-on, and creative learning experiences for children and families, supports part-time instructors and volunteers, and ensures programs run safely and in accordance with YMCA standards and risk management policies. Role and Responsibilities Design, develop, and deliver engaging STEAM classes, workshops, clinics, and family programs that foster creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, and a love of learning. Create and maintain progressive, age-appropriate STEAM curriculum, lesson plans, project guides, and instructional resources that support consistent program delivery across multiple instructors. Lead a variety of STEAM experiences, including robotics, coding, engineering, science experiments, environmental education, mathematics, and visual arts, adapting activities to meet the needs of participants with diverse abilities and experience levels. Plan, coordinate, and facilitate family engagement programs, including family STEAM nights, parent-child workshops, special events, seasonal celebrations, and other community-building activities. Manage all aspects of program and event logistics, including scheduling, registration, space coordination, supplies, equipment, volunteers, setup, and cleanup. Build positive relationships with participants, families, schools, libraries, community organizations, and STEAM partners to enhance programming opportunities and expand community engagement. Collaborate with marketing and membership teams to promote programs through descriptions, flyers, social media, and outreach initiatives that support enrollment and retention goals. Monitor program participation, attendance, waitlists, participant progress, and family feedback, using data and insights to improve program quality and recommend new offerings. Recruit, train, mentor, and support part-time instructors and volunteers, ensuring high-quality instruction and a positive participant experience. Manage STEAM supplies, materials, technology, and equipment, including inventory control, purchasing, organization, and budget-conscious resource management. Maintain accurate program records, attendance documentation, and registration information in YMCA systems. Ensure compliance with YMCA policies, child protection standards, risk management procedures, and emergency response protocols. Maintain a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment where all participants and families feel respected, supported, and encouraged to explore and learn. Model and promote the YMCA core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility in all interactions, programs, and activities. Support program growth by identifying new program opportunities, partnerships, funding resources, and innovative STEAM experiences that meet community needs and advance branch goals.
Requirements:
Qualifications and Education Requirements High school diploma or equivalent required; coursework or degree in Education, Science, Engineering, Computer Science, Art, or related field preferred. One to three years of experience teaching or leading STEAM, enrichment, or out-of-school time programs for children. Experience writing lesson plans or curriculum for hands-on, project-based learning. Experience planning family programs or community events preferred. Comfort with basic technology used in STEAM classes, such as coding platforms, robotics kits, and tablets. Curious, creative, and organized, with the ability to engage both children and adults. CPR/AED and First Aid (or ability to obtain within 60 days) Child Abuse Prevention Training
