The agency's main responsibilities include authorizing and approving new degree programs, managing state-funded financial aid programs, and developing and advocating policies to maximize higher education's contributions to the state and its citizens. About Academic Oversight The Ohio Department of Higher Education works closely with faulty, staff, and administrators from Ohio's institutions of higher education (IHE) to ensure that students' academic needs are met. ODHE provides guidance, coordination, oversight, and accountability for a wide variety of academic programs delivered by IHEs throughout the state of Ohio. The agency is also charged with developing, reviewing, and enacting policies that ensure that the programs and courses taught at Ohio's colleges, universities, and technical centers are of the highest quality. Job Duties Academic Oversight Analyst -Administrative Staff and unclassified pursuant to §124.11 (A) (30) and §3333.03 of the Revised Code. Serves at the pleasure of the Chancellor and in a fiduciary capacity to the Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE). Has access to confidential and sensitive personnel information that contains personally identifiable information and institutional data. Serves at the pleasure of the Chancellor and in a fiduciary capacity to the Ohio Department of Higher Education. Monitors and tracks public and private institutions that have had adverse actions or findings identified by the United States Department of Education (USDE), ODHE, accreditors, or licensure boards. Works with the division of academic program approval to advise the Chancellor and the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs on recommendations to bring institutions into compliance with academic program or institutional oversight guidelines and policies.
THE POSITION IS RESPONSIBLE FOR
Reviews Ohio's public and private institutions for continuous compliance with standards for program rigor. Reviews institution policies and practices for compliance with state and federal laws, accreditation policies, and advises on potential areas of concern. Obtains and stores documentation related to any sanction, watch, notice, or adverse action related to institution academic programs or overall institution health, and monitors the institution's progress in rectifying adverse actions Works with Ohio colleges and universities to bring them into compliance with state, federal, and/or accreditor standards. Assists in the implementation of policies and processes related to program authorization and institutional reauthorization, pursuant to Chapter 1713 of the Ohio Revised Code and Chapter 3333-1-08 of the Ohio Administrative Code. Monitors updates/revisions to the Higher Education Act of 1965 through negotiated rulemaking that affect institutions participating in Title IV Federal Financial Aid. Presents policies of the Chancellor and actions of the General Assembly to higher education stakeholders. Investigates institutions that may be operating illegally in the state without the Chancellor's authorization. Assesses institutions that may be operating on the edges of existing policies and norms. Represents and acts on behalf of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs in meetings with state agencies, colleges and universities, and the business community in matters related to the compliance of institutions and academic degree programs. Reviews and responds to complaints related to compliance of institutions with their written policies and procedures. Other duties as assigned. Previous experience with institutional and professional accreditation agencies and the approval of undergraduate and graduate programs in institutions of higher education. Excellent communication and data analytic skills with mastery of standard PC applications (Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint). Ability to interpret and disseminate high-level policy and procedures. Ability to relate professionally, diplomatically, and with credibility in interactions with a wide variety of stakeholders. Ability to function as a team member, identify problems/issues, and offer solutions. Committed to continuous learning. Willing to travel in and out-of-state as needed.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of national trends and issues in: accreditation; assessment; general education; state authorization; undergraduate and graduate education; and articulation and transfer. Working knowledge of the Higher Education Act of 1965, and Ohio Department of Higher Education's Guidelines and Procedures for Academic Program Review.
