Job Description
The WIC Breastfeeding Peer Helper provides breastfeeding education, encouragement, and support to pregnant and breastfeeding WIC participants. Reporting to the WIC Health Professional/Breastfeeding Coordinator, this role supports client engagement and retention through one-on-one counseling, on-call assistance, distribution of breastfeeding supplies, documentation, and community outreach activities that promote positive breastfeeding outcomes.

Conduct counseling sessions with pregnant and breastfeeding WIC clients. Assist the WIC Health Professional/Breastfeeding Coordinator with group education sessions. Mail breastfeeding, pregnancy, and due-date educational materials to clients. Carry the breastfeeding on-call cell phone to answer client questions as needed. Distribute breast pumps and breastfeeding supplies in accordance with program guidelines. Document client encounters and communications accurately in the WIC computer system. Obtain required continuing education to maintain lactation-related credentials.Functional Area:

Monitor and regulate breastfeeding-related social media pages. Assist with planning and participation in community outreach events. Support the COPE Program through Waverly City Schools in collaboration with the Breastfeeding Coordinator.Functional Area:

Attend WIC staff meetings. Participate in committee meetings as assigned by the WIC Health Professional/Breastfeeding Coordinator or WIC Director. Complete all required annual agency and program trainings.Minimum Requirements Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent.Job-Related Experience:
Completion of a minimum of 20 hours of state-approved breastfeeding training. Completion of at least six (6) hours of continuing education annually in the field of lactation.People Management Experience:
Not applicable.Licenses, Certifications, and Accreditations:
None required. Preferred Qualifications Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC). Working Conditions This position operates primarily in a well-lit medical office environment with minimal travel required for community engagement activities. The role includes on-call responsibilities via the Peer Program cell phone. The position is typically scheduled 16 hours a week, Monday through Thursday.Similar remote jobs
