Position Summary The Program Manager is responsible for directly operating high-quality YMCA programs and activities for youth, adults, families, and the community. The Program Manager will assist in developing, organizing, and planning all programs along with other YMCA staff. This is a hands-on, program-focused position designed to ensure YMCA programs are well-planned, organized, engaging, and successfully carried out. The Program Manager's schedule will vary throughout the year based on the YMCA's current program calendar. Hours will primarily include weekday evenings and weekends and may change seasonally depending on scheduled programs, activities, birthday parties, leagues, and special events. Essential Functions Directly runs and supervises scheduled programs and activities , including youth sports, youth activities, adult programs, family activities, birthday parties, and special events. Assist in planning, developing, and implementing YMCA programs that meet the interests and needs of members and the surrounding community. Develops ideas for new programs and activities that can expand the YMCA's offerings and encourage participation from members and the community. Assist in preparing program plans, schedules, rules, activities, and other materials necessary to successfully operate assigned programs. Provides appropriate instruction, supervision, and leadership to participants during programs and activities. Ensures programs begin and end on time and are operated in an organized, welcoming, and professional manner. Conducts necessary set-up and clean-up for programs, activities, birthday parties, and special events. Ensures necessary equipment and supplies are prepared and available before each program or activity. Monitors program spaces and activities to ensure participants follow YMCA policies and appropriate safety procedures. Communicates with participants, parents, members, instructors, and YMCA staff as needed during programs. Provides feedback to YMCA leadership regarding program participation, participant experience, supply needs, scheduling concerns, and opportunities for future programming. Assists with promoting upcoming programs by providing program ideas, descriptions, schedules, and other relevant information to the appropriate YMCA staff. Represents the YMCA's mission and values while creating a positive, welcoming, and engaging environment for all program participants. Performs other program-related duties as assigned. Program Areas The Program Manager may be responsible for developing and/or operating programs in areas including, but not limited to: Youth Sports Organizes and runs youth sports programs, clinics, leagues, and activities. Prepares age-appropriate activities, schedules, rules, and program plans. Coordinates with other staff when necessary. Oversees program set-up, operation, and clean-up. Creates a positive environment focused on participation, sportsmanship, skill development, and fun. Youth & Family Activities Develops and operates recreational and enrichment activities for children and families. Assists with creating new activities based on community interests and YMCA resources. Prepares necessary supplies, equipment, and activity plans. Supervises participants and ensures activities are conducted safely and appropriately. Supervise Teen Center & Child Watch Programs Adult Programs & Activities Develops and operates recreational, social, wellness, and enrichment activities for adults. Identifies opportunities for new adult programs based on member and community interests. Coordinates program logistics and directly oversees activities as scheduled. Birthday Parties Serves as the on-site YMCA staff member responsible for scheduled birthday parties. Prepares and sets up the appropriate party space before guests arrive. Welcomes the party group and assists with the scheduled party activities. Supervises use of YMCA spaces and equipment throughout the party. Assists the party host and guests as needed. Completes clean-up and returns the space to its appropriate condition following the party. Special Events Assists in developing ideas for YMCA special events and community activities. Helps organize and directly operate assigned events. Coordinates necessary equipment, supplies, activities, and program spaces. Assists with event set-up, supervision, and clean-up. Summer Camp Assists in developing ideas for YMCA summer camp weekly themes and daily activities Helps organize summer camp planning and activity materials Work Schedule This position requires a flexible schedule based on the YMCA's program calendar rather than a consistent weekly schedule. Hours will primarily consist of weekday evenings and weekends and will vary throughout the year. For example, if a six-week youth soccer program is scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00-7:00 PM, the Program Manager may be scheduled during those program hours. If a birthday party or special event is scheduled on a Saturday or Sunday, the Program Manager may be scheduled to operate that activity. Applicants must be comfortable with a schedule that changes throughout the year based on programming needs. Position Focus The Program Manager is primarily a hands-on programming position . The primary responsibility of this role is to create, prepare for, and successfully operate YMCA programs and activities. This position is not primarily responsible for administrative functions such as registrations, scheduling, bookkeeping, financial aid processing, department budgeting, payroll, or other general office management responsibilities. Administrative support for programs will be handled by the appropriate YMCA staff. Qualifications Experience working with youth, adults, families, recreation, sports, education, or community programming preferred. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills. Comfortable leading groups and interacting with participants of different ages. Ability to organize and operate multiple types of recreational programs and activities. Creative and willing to develop new program ideas. Dependable and able to work independently. Strong communication and customer service skills. Ability to adapt to a changing and flexible work schedule. Must be available for regular evening and weekend hours. Ability to complete required YMCA trainings and certifications. CPR/AED/First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain upon hire. Physical & Work Requirements Ability to actively participate in and supervise recreational programs and activities. Ability to set up, move, and put away program equipment and supplies. Ability to remain active and engaged throughout scheduled programs, parties, and events. Ability to work indoors and outdoors depending on the program. Must be able to work evenings and weekends based on scheduled YMCA programming.
Pay:
$12.00 - $15.00 per hour Expected hours: 5.0 - 10.0 per week
