Summary of Role The Financial Empowerment Coach (FEC) is a full-time, benefited position responsible for the day-to-day coordination and delivery of United Way of Greater Charlottesville's financial coaching and financial stability programming, including serving as the Lead Coach for the ALICE Stability Wallet employer pilot. This role combines hands-on financial coaching with participant support, program implementation, employer and community coordination, and data tracking. The FEC serves as the primary day-to-day point of contact for participants engaged in UWGC financial coaching initiatives, ALICE at Work programming, and the ALICE Stability Wallet pilot. The FEC will provide individualized financial coaching and ensure programs are implemented consistently, efficiently, equitably, and in alignment with established program goals and organizational priorities. While this position is remote and does not require an assigned in-office day, it requires significant in-person engagement with clients, community partners, and other stakeholders. The FEC will have flexibility to develop and manage their own schedule in coordination with their supervisor and based on program and client needs. Regular local travel is required, and mileage will be reimbursed in accordance with UWGC policy. Key Responsibilities Financial Empowerment & Client Services Create and implement UWGC's standardized financial coaching framework. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement based on participant needs, outcomes, and experience. Provide one-on-one financial coaching to individuals and families to assess financial circumstances, identify barriers, establish goals, and develop actionable next steps, including individualized financial plans addressing budgeting, cash flow, debt management, credit, emergency savings, and longer-term financial goals. Provide financial education and connect participants with tools and resources that support increased financial stability. Monitor participant progress and adjust financial plans and strategies as needed to support measurable outcomes. Provide coaching and participant services using culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and strengths-based approaches. Identify and document participant outcomes and success stories to support program evaluation, reporting, and communications. ALICE Stability Wallet Lead Coach Serve as Lead Coach for the ALICE Stability Wallet pilot, managing the participant experience from intake and assessment through program completion. Conduct participant assessments and develop Individualized Stability Plans that identify goals, barriers, appropriate supports, credits, and applicable program rewards. Apply the Coach-or-Refer framework to determine when participants can be supported directly through financial coaching and when specialized services or community referrals are appropriate. Coordinate with the Transportation Manager, Coordinated Enrollment Specialist, and other UWGC staff to address participant barriers, escalating complex cases to the Vice President as appropriate. Administer and document participant use of Barrier Relief Credits and other Stability Wallet supports in accordance with established program guidelines. Maintain timely and accurate participant records within the UWGC client platform to support program management, outcome measurement, and employer dashboard reporting. Identify recurring participant needs and barriers and share trends with program leadership to inform ongoing program improvements. Coordinate employer workshops, trainings, meetings, participant activities, and other program logistics. Assist the Director of Systems Development in maintaining regular communication with participating employers and community partners to support participant engagement, referrals, and effective program implementation. Identify operational challenges and recommend improvements to strengthen efficiency, accessibility, and the participant experience. Program Outreach & Engagement Support participant outreach and engagement for financial stability and ALICE at Work programs. Collaborate with the Marketing Manager on program outreach opportunities, materials, and communications. Support participant recruitment through employer, community, and cross-program partnerships. Represent UWGC financial stability initiatives at relevant employer and community events as needed. Data, Reporting & Program Support Track participation, services, outputs, outcomes, and operational milestones across assigned programs. Monitor participant and program progress against established goals and performance measures. Maintain accurate Barrier Relief Credit utilization and outcome data for the ALICE Stability Wallet employer dashboard. Maintain accurate and timely participant documentation and program records. Assist with funder reporting, grant documentation, employer reporting, and internal program summaries. Identify trends, gaps, and participant needs through program data and share findings with program leadership. Administrative & Team Support Support the administrative and logistical needs of financial stability programming. Assist with program budget tracking, invoices, participant assistance payments, and expense documentation. Collaborate across UWGC program areas to strengthen referrals, coordinate services, and improve the participant experience. Participate in ongoing program planning, evaluation, and continuous improvement efforts. Perform other duties as assigned to meet organizational needs. Qualifications & Education Requirements Bachelor's degree in business, finance, human services, nonprofit management, workforce development, or a related field preferred; or a combination of relevant education, training, and professional experience that demonstrates the skills necessary to successfully perform the role. Two or more years of relevant experience in financial coaching, financial education, human services, workforce development, case management, program coordination, or a related field preferred. Experience working directly with individuals and families to identify needs, establish goals, and connect them with appropriate resources. Strong organizational, project coordination, and time-management skills. Ability to build effective relationships and work collaboratively with participants, employers, community partners, and internal teams. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals and families from diverse backgrounds and circumstances. Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to independently prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and comfort learning client management, data-tracking, and project-management systems. Experience with or comfort administering client-facing financial assistance programs, including credits, vouchers, stipends, or similar supports. Preferred Skills & Experience Experience with financial coaching, workforce development, economic mobility, employee assistance, or workforce retention programs. Familiarity with ALICE households, financial stability strategies, or poverty-informed approaches. Experience working with employers or employer-based workforce support programs. Familiarity with early childhood systems, including Head Start, VPI, Mixed Delivery, or other School Readiness initiatives. Experience supporting grant-funded programs and related reporting requirements. Experience facilitating workshops, trainings, or group education. Demonstrated cultural responsiveness, emotional intelligence, empathy, and ability to build trust with participants. Strong relationship-building, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple participant relationships, activities, and priorities simultaneously. Demonstrated professionalism, accountability, sound judgment, and personal integrity. Self-directed and solutions-oriented, with the ability to work effectively with appropriate supervision and support. Physical Requirements Prolonged periods of working at a computer. Ability to travel locally to employer sites, community partner locations, meetings, trainings, and outreach events as needed.
