About the Role
Aero Law Center's AeroShield program helps Part 145 repair stations build and maintain regulatory compliance programs that hold up under FAA scrutiny — before problems become enforcement actions. We're looking for a former or current Part 145 Director of Maintenance, or a former FAA Principal Maintenance Inspector, to join AeroShield as a consulting advisor.
We want someone who has actually run the floor of a repair station or overseen one from the FAA side — someone who knows the difference between a checklist that looks compliant and a program that actually survives an inspection. You'll work directly with our team to sharpen AeroShield's compliance framework, weigh in on real client situations, and represent the program at industry events where your credibility as a practitioner carries real weight.
What You'll Do
Review and strengthen AeroShield's compliance framework, checklists, and SMS guidance based on your real-world DOM or PMI experience
Provide direct insight to AeroShield clients on best practices — the practitioner's view of what actually gets cited, what gets a letter of correction, and what triggers something worse
Contribute practitioner-level input to AeroShield educational content (webinars, training materials, client-facing guides)
Represent AeroShield at 2-4 industry trade shows/conferences per year (PAMA, NBAA, MRO events, etc.) — panels, booth presence, and informal conversations with prospects and clients
Be available for periodic ad hoc consultation with the Aero Law Center team on active client matters requiring a DOM/PMI perspective
Requirements
Requirements & Qualifications
Former or current Part 145 Director of Maintenance, OR former FAA Principal Maintenance Inspector (PMI) with Part 145 oversight experience
Deep working knowledge of Part 145 requirements, repair station SMS, and FAA inspection/enforcement processes
Track record of building or overseeing a compliance program that held up under real regulatory scrutiny — not just paper compliance
Comfortable speaking publicly and representing a program at industry trade shows and conferences
Strong communication skills — able to translate regulatory/technical detail into clear, actionable guidance for repair station clients
Available for periodic remote consultation and 2-4 trade show appearances annually
If currently employed as a DOM or FAA inspector: must be able to confirm this consulting work is permitted under your employer's outside-activity policy (for FAA inspectors, this falls under federal ethics rules on outside employment) — retired/former DOMs and PMIs are also strongly encouraged to apply.
