Job Description

The Waukesha County Historical Society & Museum fosters an exploration of the American experience through the stories of Waukesha County. This includes the operation of the Waukesha County Museum, Huelsman Family Research Center, publication of Landmark magazine, management of a Historic Marker Program, and offering of public and educational programs. The Program Coordinator works alongside the Executive Director and Volunteer Corps to present educational and public programs, tours, and outreach. They are an integral part of the daily operations team, with onsite supervision responsibilities during the museum's open hours. This position includes the supervision of volunteers and student interns. Responsibilities - Position Serves as the point of contact for education program partners including schools, tour groups, libraries, etc. Manages a range of program offerings inducing onsite tours,

Outreach, Museum ToGo:
Digital, and Hands-on History. Maintains program calendar, including the scheduling of WCHSM docents and volunteers. Oversees the creation of materials for programs including Hands On History Kits; Les Paul Maker Kits; and other deliverable programs. Manages Digital Resource pages and creates new digital content. Maintains the Education Department object collection. Works with the Executive Director to revise and/or develop programs and annual department goals. Collaborates on a range of community events, including Waukesha Janboree, Waukesha Reads, Preservation Days, Waukesha Unlocked. Responsibilities - General Works collaboratively with staff and volunteers in the daily operation of the WCHSM. Prepares required reports and planning documents for the position scope of work and the larger organization. Oversees the work of student interns and volunteers. Performs all duties under professional codes of ethics specified by the American Alliance of Museums, and under legal requirements. A strong candidate will have or demonstrate: Degree in museum studies, historical administration, history, or similar area of study; or comparable work experience. Experience working in an educational setting - academic classroom, cultural organization, or museum. Desire to be part of a team environment, working collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and community members. Good oral and written communication skills. Strong organizational, problem solving, and project management skills. Familiarity with Office 365. Enthusiasm to learn new skills & adapt to dynamic community needs.
Work Conditions:
Museum office, museum gallery, and storage environments. A range of audience-based settings, at the WCHSM and other venues. Accommodations available, ability to move or otherwise oversee the arrangement of materials and equipment in preparation for programs. Involves some evenings and weekend hours. Able to provide own transportation to perform some principal duties. Must have a valid Wisconsin driver's license and safe driving record. Must be able to pass a background check, as required by WCHSM's school and educational site partners.
Schedule:
4-days per week. Can accommodate hybrid onsite & work-from-home based on program bookings.
