Through service to the rare disease community, our youth develop lifelong leadership skills, cultivate compassion and commitment, and learn to personally contribute to the betterment of society. By instilling these skills and values in kids at a young age, we are creating a lifelong imprint that positively impacts the world. This 20-28 hours per month position will develop our youth leadership team and continue the mission of the Avalon Foundation.
Key Responsibilities:
Mentor youth in their endeavors Arrange and direct physical/virtual meetings, at least once per month Lead the School Outreach Program Direct the Leadership Program Collaborate with community mentors to engage with our youth leaders Foster communication between adult Board of Directors and youth board members Communicate with parents/guardians regarding meetings and progress/issues with youth leaders Work with the youth board members to create meeting agendas Establish a yearly plan for goals and activities, working with appropriate staff and board members Communicate & coordinate with team members regarding KC4K progress, events, follow-up Participate in program development meetings Engage with Programs Coordinator & Volunteer Coordinator Lead shopping teams when necessaryKey Qualifications and Duties:
Positive, energetic presence and creative, flexible perspective Time and heart commitment Approximately 20-28 hrs/month (including 1 weekday meeting/week, Sunday meetings, and regular communication when needed) This will increase with funding. Necessary skills to form successful collaborations with stakeholders and organizational partners Strong volunteer coordination and engagement skills Eager to work with young people in a non-traditional environment, and integrate the voices of youth into programs and leadership Exceptional organizational skills and plan follow-up/follow-through Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong writing Computer efficiency including MS Word, Excel and Power Point Knowledge and skill with social media - Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, etc. Enjoy working on multiple projects in a fast-paced, supportive work environment Takes initiative and is resourceful Ability to work well autonomously as well as part of a dynamic teamPreferred:
Successful experience designing, developing and coordinating youth programs (youth leader, coach, teacher, etc.) A track record of success in your work with young people to create change, both seeing the big picture, and managing the detailsKey Responsibilities:
