Job Description

The Women's Freedom Center , a feminist domestic and sexual violence organization, is looking for a Youth Education Advocate to join our Brattleboro team. This is a dynamic, multi-faceted position for someone who enjoys working with young people, connecting with communities, and supporting survivors—and who can think clearly and stay grounded when things get stressful or unpredictable. No two days are quite alike. You might be supporting a survivor during a sexual assault forensic exam, helping someone think through a safety plan, leading a workshop with middle or high school students, or advocating with a school or other system on a survivor's behalf. Sometimes, all of that happens in the same day. The right person will bring experience working with youth and/or facilitating educational workshops , strong communication skills, good judgment, and the ability to build trusting relationships with people of all ages and backgrounds. We're looking for someone who is curious, collaborative, adaptable, and comfortable moving between education, advocacy, and crisis response. About the Position The Youth Education Advocate provides direct advocacy and support to survivors while taking a lead role in youth education, prevention, and community outreach . The position works with young people of all ages, as well as educators, schools, youth-serving organizations, and community partners, to increase understanding of healthy relationships, sexual and domestic violence, consent, safety, and available resources. Principal Responsibilities Direct Advocacy & Survivor Support Provide advocacy, information, and emotional support to survivors and their children, sharing equitably in the Center's direct service work. Participate in crisis line coverage and respond to survivors experiencing immediate or ongoing crises. Support survivors in a variety of settings, which may include hospitals, schools, courts, law enforcement agencies, and other community systems. Assist survivors with safety planning, resource navigation, and advocacy with systems and service providers. Facilitate or participate in support groups and community education opportunities. Youth Education & Prevention Build relationships with local schools, youth organizations, and other community partners. Develop and facilitate engaging educational programs for students of different ages and developmental levels. Provide training and educational opportunities for teachers, school staff, and other adults who work with young people. Develop creative and relevant approaches to conversations about healthy relationships, consent, boundaries, sexual and domestic violence, and safety. Stay current on issues affecting young people and incorporate relevant knowledge into educational and advocacy work. Community Engagement & Collaboration Develop and maintain strong working relationships with schools, youth-serving organizations, and the local service network. Represent and work collaboratively with community partners to strengthen prevention and response to domestic and sexual violence. Administrative & Organizational Responsibilities Maintain accurate and timely records of services, outreach, and educational activities. Provide information needed for grant applications, reporting, contracts, and program evaluation. Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality. Contribute to a workplace that values collaboration, learning, respect, and good health. Participate in staff meetings, training, supervision, and other organizational activities. Take on other responsibilities as needed to support the work of the Women's Freedom Center. What We're Looking For Experience working with youth and/or facilitating educational workshops is required . Strong communication and relationship-building skills. Ability to engage young people in thoughtful, age-appropriate, and sometimes difficult conversations. Ability to remain calm, flexible, and grounded in stressful or unpredictable situations. Good judgment, self-awareness, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Commitment to survivor self-determination, confidentiality, and a trauma-informed approach. Commitment to feminist, anti-racist, and inclusive practice. Willingness to share direct-service responsibilities, including crisis line coverage.
