Cross-Cultural Navigator -
Russian and Ukrainian Speaker Rate of Pay:
$19-20/hour
FLSA Status:
Non-Exempt Benefits:

Schedule:
A flexible monthly schedule of up to 35 hours/month. These hours may be increased to up to 22 hours/week for a candidate interested in additional driving responsibilities.
Job Description:
Elders Program:
The Cross-Cultural Navigator recruits refugee elders to participate in the Refugee Elder Program activities; registers and serves as bridge between the participants of their community and RICS staff and volunteers; facilitates participation in the scheduled activities; provides support for planned activities; provides transportation to and from program activities.
Responsibilities:
Identify and recruit refugee elder community members to take part in Refugee and Immigrant Connections Spokane Refugee Elder Outreach Program Translate informational flyers or other print materials Work with community members to promote the project and recruit and register refugee elders to participate. For each elder, thoroughly complete the RICS registration form including all and collect relevant identification and legal documents. Provide enthusiastic follow-up support and coordination to ensure that the registered elders attend the scheduled activities. This may include phone calls, mailing, and arranging or providing transportation to the activities. Provides transportation to and from program activities for participants utilizing an organization passenger van or a personal vehicle. Develop and attend program activities, supervise sign-in for all participants, register new participants and assist presenters, as needed. This may include language interpretation, participating in the activity itself and providing other assistance. Advocate for elders when necessary. Encourage elders to provide feedback about the program and activities that are engaging. Provide information and referral services when needed to other appropriate programs, including internal referrals to other RICS programs as appropriate Document program activities, support provided, and phone calls with program participants utilizing an online case management software tool. Knowledge & Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual must meet the minimum qualifications listed below. These qualifications are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required to perform this job:
  • Fluent in Russian and Ukrainian
  • Sensitivity to diversity in all its forms—e.g. culture, gender, race, age, nationality, religion.
  • Effective in building strong relationships with clients focusing on results and impact for clients.
  • Proven ability to operate as a collaborative team member.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally.
  • Responds positively to feedback.
  • Intermediate level computer skills preferred (Outlook, client management database - training provided)
Education & Experience :
  • Previous experience working in a multicultural environment preferred
  • Experience driving a large vehicle such as 12-passenger van preferred
Physical Requirements:
  • : sit, stand, climb, walk, lift 40 lbs., pull/push 20 lbs., carry 20 lbs., grasp, reach, stoop/crouch, crawl, talk, hear, taste, or smell.
  • Essential functions require sufficient physical ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time and operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine motor coordination including use of a computer keyboard.
Other Requirements:
  • Must be able to pass a background check
Driving Requirements:
For positions involving operation of a 12-passenger van or transporting participants, employees must be age 21 or older, hold a valid Washington State driver's license, maintain an acceptable driving record, and comply with RICS' vehicle safety policies.
