Job Description

Director of Programs - Variety - the Children's Charity of Wisconsin enriches the lives of children with physical or developmental special needs and their families. Our vision is that Variety's Children can actively participate and experience the joys of childhood. This position provides direction for Variety's programming and family support. Elements include connections with Variety families, community resources and service providers, and data collection for impact and reporting. This position will manage a small portfolio of Variety donors and stakeholders, primarily related to program funding. This position will work with all members of the Variety team and the Board of Directors. This is a full-time, exempt position within the standard work week, but will require periodic evening and weekend hours to accommodate meetings, resource fairs and events. 1. Oversight and management of Variety Freedom and Care programs:
  • Review of applications and appropriate follow ups with families, medical and equipment providers
  • Management of Requests for Proposals for CARE program and subsequent process of accepting, reviewing and managing applications
  • Outreach to families regarding potential Freedom program opportunities; support and advocacy throughout the process 2. Oversight and management of Variety Discover Program
  • Develop annual calendar of Discover opportunities and assess feasibility of new Discover events and partnerships.
  • Serve as event lead for Discover family events
  • Volunteer recruitment and management 3.
Oversight of Chatter Matters Communication Program Serve as Co-Director, partnering with camp leadership to plan and oversee a 4-day/3-night program at UW-Whitewater focused on building communication skills for children (ages 5-18) who use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices and their families. Manage budget and resources with co-director, including planning, purchasing, and allocation to ensure efficient use within constraints. Serve as a liaison between the Children's Long-Term Support (CLTS) Program contact and CLTS coordinator at UW-Whitewater. Ensure a positive, inclusive, and educational experience aligned with the program's mission to strengthen the family's communication skills using an AAC device 4. Variety Staff liaison to the agency's Program Review Committee (PRC)
  • Facilitates discussions and decisions related to Freedom the Freedom program grants
  • Provides relevant updates to educate Committee on Variety's impact
  • Facilitates the review process and committee input for the agency CARE grant process 5. Program specific funding and donor engagement
  • Research funding opportunities and manage relationships with program donors and sponsors
  • Assist with stewardship plans and build into agency communication efforts Share stories from connections with Variety families to support marketing efforts 6. Support Strategic Plan objectives through programming and outreach
  • Provide regular updates to staff and board of directors on outreach activities and program growth
  • Involvement in board planning activities related to Variety programming 7. Create an end of fiscal year Variety Programs Report, highlighting the outcomes of that specific year's programs. 8. Attend one state conference and staff Resource Fairs, potentially outside of southeastern Wisconsin 9. Assist with other tasks and special projects, as requested by Executive Director
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including strong public speaking skills
  • Previous experience with budget management, events and volunteer recruitment & management
  • Ability to interface and engage diverse volunteer and donor groups
  • High competency using Microsoft Office and CRM database products
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Respect for differing abilities and necessary modifications This position operates typically 8:30 am - 4:30 pm within an office environment and involves interaction with drop-in guests, volunteers and four other staff.
After the training period, there will be an opportunity to discuss flexible scheduling A valid Wisconsin Driver's License is required. The job involves standing, walking and lifting items up to 25 pounds. Team-oriented office with frequent collaboration across departments. Salary negotiable and commensurate with experience.
