Job Description
A large and growing general contractor in the Waterbury, CT area is seeking Project Engineers / Assistant Project Managers to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity for construction professionals who want to take the next step in their careers and have a clear path toward a Project Manager position . The company has a strong project pipeline and offers the opportunity to work closely with experienced Project Managers and Superintendents while gaining valuable experience managing commercial construction projects from preconstruction through completion. Position Overview The Project Engineer / Assistant Project Manager will work under the direction of a Senior Project Engineer and/or Project Manager and will assist with the administration, coordination, scheduling, procurement, and documentation of construction projects . This position is ideal for someone with 2-7 years of construction experience who is organized, detail-oriented, and interested in developing into a Project Manager. Key ResponsibilitiesProject Administration & Coordination Assist Project Managers with the day-to-day administration and coordination of construction projects. Coordinate communication between owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, and project team members. Maintain accurate project documentation, correspondence, logs, and records. Assist with preparation and distribution of information for project meetings. Submittals & Shop Drawings Schedule, coordinate, track, and review shop drawings and material submittals. Maintain submittal and transmittal logs and ensure information is distributed to the appropriate project team members. Coordinate subcontractor and supplier activities with other trades to minimize conflicts and installation issues in the field. Monitor submittals and material approvals to support the construction schedule. Project Scheduling Assist with development and maintenance of CPM construction schedules . Coordinate shop drawing processing, material procurement, and other activities with project scheduling requirements. Participate in periodic job site visits to review progress with the Project Superintendent and subcontractors. Help maintain accurate schedule updates and communicate changes to the project team. RFIs & Project Documentation Prepare and submit Requests for Information (RFIs) to architects and engineers. Track RFI responses and maintain accurate logs for project meetings and distribution. Review project correspondence and identify items requiring follow-up by the Project Manager. Maintain organized project and field files. Change Orders Identify potential changes during the submittal and construction process. Assist Project Managers with developing change order proposals and pricing . Communicate approved changes to affected subcontractors and suppliers. Coordinate changes to help ensure proper execution in the field. Procurement Solicit pricing from vendors and subcontractors. Assist with procurement and buyout of miscellaneous materials and items. Expedite materials and equipment to ensure they arrive in accordance with the construction schedule. Follow up with suppliers and subcontractors regarding pricing, deliveries, and outstanding items. Job Meetings & Field Coordination Attend project and subcontractor meetings with the Project Manager. Be prepared to discuss project status, outstanding items, RFIs, submittals, scheduling, and other project issues. Work with Project Superintendents and subcontractors to help coordinate field activities. Visit active construction sites as needed to understand project progress and assist with coordination. Qualifications 2-7 years of experience in commercial construction or a related construction field. Experience with RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, project documentation, and construction scheduling . Strong organizational and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines. Strong attention to detail and follow-through. Ability to communicate effectively with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, vendors, architects, and engineers. Construction Management degree is a plus, but not required. Candidates with a Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related degree are encouraged to apply. Career Growth Opportunity This is more than a Project Engineer position.
