SUMMARY:
Responsible for Assisting with bidding and managing projects in a timely, financially sound, and cost-effective manner while maintaining high standards of integrity and customer satisfaction.
AUTHORITY AND REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The Assistant Estimator/Project Manager is hired by the President and reports to the Vice President - Operations. The Assistant Estimator/Project Manager also works closely with General Foreman and the project Foremen.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Assistant Estimator/Project Manager is directly responsible for:
  • Assist with Developing appropriate bids
  • Assist with cost effectively managing the timely execution and completion of assigned projects as well as supplying all internal and external reporting/documentation requirements in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Making suggestions to the Vice President, Estimators and Project Managers - Operations for increasing profitability and operational efficiency.
Specific Responsibilities:
  • Assist with developing bid opportunities.
  • Setup new estimate numbers
  • Setup estimating folders and downloading project documents to the folders.
  • Update the estimate log.
  • Follow up on pending estimates.
  • Assist with creating material take-offs from drawings and specifications.
  • Coordinate/review take-offs prepared by the Estimating Department.
  • Assist with obtaining material quotations and cost estimates.
  • Assist developing labor hour estimates.
  • Assist with pricing bids in a manner that is consistent with guidelines established from time to time.
  • Assist with assembling and submitting final bid documents.
  • Assist with reviewing the contract documents prior to contract execution.
  • Assist with project planning activities including establishing timing, budgets, and staffing/material procurement plans for assigned projects.
  • Assist with providing foremen with all necessary project documents i.e. submittal data, plans, specifications, PO's, and Bill of Material, as well as any changes in scope of work.
  • Assist with procuring all "nonstock" material and related submittals. This includes preparing and distributing all internal P.O. documents on a timely basis.
  • Assist with proactively monitoring assigned project activities in a manner that optimizes quality, cost, and customer satisfaction.
  • Participating in periodic project meetings.
  • Assist with proactively managing the Change Order process.
MEASURES OF PERFORMANCE
The Assistant Estimator/Project Manager will be deemed to be performing satisfactorily when:
  • Projects are completed on specification, on time and on budget.
  • All responsibilities listed above have been carried out on time, in a professional manner and all reports are timely, up-to-date, and accurate.
  • The Vice President - Operations is satisfied with the overall performance of the Assistant Estimator/Project Manager.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with customers and employees.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals, and plan drawing scales.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Must have flexible thinking skills.
  • Must be able to operate a calculator and computer.
  • Must have communication skills.
  • Must be able to write legibly and neatly.
  • Must be proficient in the use of a computer, iPad, iPhone, electronic estimating, and the Change Order process.
  • Must be knowledgeable of software systems such as Microsoft Office, Accubid, Adobe, and others as necessary.

He/she is occasionally exposed to vibration and occasionally is exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but sometimes is loud.
