Pettiecord, Inc. is seeking an experienced Railroad & Environmental Project Manager to manage railroad, environmental, emergency spill response, remediation, demolition, excavation, and related field projects. This is a hands-on project management position for someone who understands field operations and can take ownership of projects from initial planning or emergency response through completion and billing. The right candidate will be comfortable working directly with customers, coordinating field crews and equipment, managing project costs and schedules, solving problems in the field, and balancing multiple active projects. Key Responsibilities Project Management Manage multiple railroad, environmental, spill response, remediation, demolition, excavation, and related projects. Serve as a primary point of contact for customers, railroad representatives, environmental consultants, subcontractors, and field personnel. Coordinate manpower, equipment, trucking, materials, disposal facilities, subcontractors, and project schedules. Clearly communicate project requirements and expectations to supervisors and field crews. Monitor project production, costs, schedules, and overall performance. Identify field issues and develop practical solutions to keep projects moving safely and efficiently. Maintain accurate project documentation, daily reports, work orders, quantities, and customer records. Assist with project closeout, change orders, invoicing, and cost review. Railroad Services Manage and coordinate railroad cleanup, maintenance, emergency response, vegetation management, excavation, material removal, and remediation projects. Work directly with railroad personnel regarding site access, track outages, flagging, protection requirements, and project logistics. Coordinate hi-rail equipment, excavators, vacuum trucks, rotary dumps, trucks, and other specialized equipment. Ensure railroad safety and site-specific requirements are communicated and followed. Assist with emergency railroad incidents and derailment-related work as needed. Environmental & Emergency Response Manage and assist with emergency spill response and environmental cleanup projects. Coordinate crews and equipment for petroleum, chemical, fertilizer, and other material releases. Coordinate containment, recovery, excavation, transportation, disposal, and site restoration activities. Work with customers, environmental consultants, regulatory representatives, and disposal facilities. Maintain accurate records of recovered materials, transportation, disposal quantities, and project activities. Help ensure work is completed safely and in accordance with applicable environmental and regulatory requirements. Estimating & Customer Development Assist with estimating railroad, environmental, spill response, remediation, demolition, excavation, and related projects. Review scopes of work, plans, specifications, site conditions, and customer requirements. Develop estimates for labor, equipment, trucking, disposal, subcontractors, and materials. Prepare or assist with proposals, quotes, and change orders. Identify additional work opportunities while managing active projects. Develop and maintain strong customer relationships. Qualifications 3+ years of relevant experience in construction, railroad operations, environmental services, emergency response, remediation, excavation, or a related field preferred. Project management, estimating, or field supervision experience preferred. Working knowledge of construction equipment, trucking, excavation, material handling, and field operations. Ability to read and understand scopes of work, plans, specifications, and work orders. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and changing priorities. Comfortable making decisions in fast-paced field and emergency-response environments. Ability to communicate professionally with customers, railroad personnel, consultants, regulators, subcontractors, and employees. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, email, and standard project documentation. Valid driver's license and ability to meet company driving requirements. Ability to travel throughout Iowa and surrounding states based on project needs. Ability to work occasional nights and weekends and respond to emergency projects when required. Preferred Experience Experience in one or more of the following areas is a plus: Class I railroad work Railroad derailment response Emergency spill response Environmental remediation Hazardous or non-hazardous material cleanup Vacuum truck operations Hi-rail equipment Excavation and earthwork Demolition Vegetation management Industrial cleanup Waste transportation and disposal Environmental regulations and permitting Railroad safety requirements Estimating and project costing What We're Looking For We're looking for someone who takes ownership and understands how field operations actually work. This is not a desk-only project management position. The successful candidate should be comfortable visiting job sites, working with crews, communicating directly with customers, solving field problems, and making decisions.

Normal scheduling will vary based on active projects.
