  • Job Purpose:
  • The project manager II is part of the Project Management Office and will be responsible for several individual projects that are large in scope.
The project manager II will be responsible to plan, budget, oversee and document all aspects of assigned projects. The project manager II will work closely with upper management to ensure transparency regarding the health of the scope and direction of each project, as well as other departments for support.

Training:
  • Required:
  • Bachelor's degree with emphasis in Business or Program Management or equivalent;
  • Experience using in MS-Project, Primavera or other project management scheduling tool;
  • 3-5 years' experience on capital intensive, highly engineering, long life cycle product line;
Preferred:
  • Masters;
  • Exposure to ERP systems;
  • PMP certified highly preferred;
  • Locomotive knowledge preferred.

  • Manage multiple projects of Locomotive Builds, Research and Development, Rebuild and Repower, Aftermarket products and Power Products that range is scope of small to NPI;
  • Ensure that all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget;
  • Organize structure and manage project teams to meet the needs of the project;
  • Lead the development of a detailed project plan;
  • Develop and communicate project scope, goals and deliverables, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring transparency;
  • Ensure resource availability and allocation;
  • Controls project costs and manage the project budget;
  • Use appropriate verification techniques to manage changes in project scope, schedule and costs;
  • Measure project performance using appropriate systems, tools and techniques;
  • Report and escalate to management as needed;
  • Perform risk management to minimize project risks;
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation;
  • Communicate project status with the organization and the end customer as defined by the contract;
  • Establish and maintain relationships all stakeholder within the project reach;
  • Ensures all deliverables of the contract are met;
  • Accept special assignments as needed;
  • Travel as required to perform duties (20-30%).
  • Qualifications and Experience:
  • Exceptional Written and verbal skills;
  • Exceptional conflict resolution skills;
  • Understand locomotive product;
  • Experience in successfully managing people, projects and/or programs;
  • Ability to influence and lead others;
  • Excellent level of analytical ability to assess, identify and facilitate appropriate alternative courses of action;
  • Able to work independently;
  • High level of interpersonal skills to work within team environment;
  • Ability to influence and lead others; both up and down;
  • Attention to detail, ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks with strict deadlines.
  • Ability to travel as required. Essential and Physical Activities Functions
  • Strength
  • Position typically involves office managerial work as well as oversight in an industrial environment. Frequent standing, sitting, and walking. Occasional light to medium-level lifting (up to 30 pounds);
  • Motion
  • Position regularly requires standard motions associated with an office environment as well as standard motions associated with leading and demonstrating in an industrial environment;
  • Vision/Hearing Requirements
  • Constant verbal communications, including both talking and hearing;
  • Work Environment
  • Position will occasionally require the use of Personal Protective Equipment. Position may involve work in a non-temperature-controlled environment. Position is located in an industrial environment, including occasional exposure to noise (85+ decibels), occasional exposure to temperature changes, and other hazardous working conditions;
  • Emotional Demands
  • Very high level of responsibility. Must be able to coordinate diverse aspects of a project. Requires significant interpersonal skills while sustaining very high standards;
