Job Description

Permitting & Project Coordinator —
EGLE / ACOE D.K.
Construction, Inc. | Holland, Michigan D.K. Construction, Inc. is a Holland, Michigan-based marina construction company specializing in docks, seawalls, boat lifts, and other waterfront construction projects. Because much of our work takes place in or near the water, many of our projects require permits and approvals from agencies such as the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (ACOE) . We are looking for a highly organized, dependable, and motivated Permitting & Project Coordinator to take ownership of the permitting process and help keep our projects moving forward. This position is ideal for someone who is a self-starter, detail-oriented, persistent, and comfortable communicating with government agencies and customers. You will be responsible for keeping permit applications organized, following up on outstanding items, tracking project status, and making sure important deadlines and requirements do not fall through the cracks. Responsibilities Prepare, submit, and track permit applications for EGLE, ACOE, and other applicable agencies Coordinate permitting requirements for waterfront construction projects Gather information, plans, drawings, property information, and other documentation needed for permit applications Communicate directly with EGLE, ACOE, municipalities, consultants, and other agencies Follow up regularly with agencies regarding permit status and outstanding requirements Respond to agency questions and requests for additional information Maintain accurate records of permit applications, correspondence, approvals, and project requirements Track permit timelines, deadlines, and expiration dates Review project information to help determine what permits or approvals may be required Work closely with project managers to coordinate permitting with project schedules Communicate permit status and requirements to customers and company personnel Help identify potential permitting issues or delays before they affect the project Assist with preparing letters, forms, applications, spreadsheets, and other project documentation Maintain organized electronic and paper project files Assist with general project coordination and office responsibilities as needed What We're Looking For We are looking for someone who takes ownership and follows through . The right person will not be someone who simply completes a checklist and waits for the next assignment. We need someone who will recognize when a permit has been sitting too long, make the phone call, send the follow-up email, find out what is needed, and keep the project moving. Required Skills Strong organizational and time-management skills Excellent attention to detail Strong written and verbal communication skills Professional communication with customers, employees, and government agencies Strong computer skills Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines Ability to work independently and take initiative Strong follow-through and problem-solving skills Ability to learn new processes and regulations Preferred Experience EGLE permitting experience ACOE permitting experience Environmental or waterway permitting experience Construction or project coordination experience Experience communicating with government agencies Experience working with construction plans, drawings, or project documents Marine, waterfront, excavation, or other construction experience Previous EGLE or ACOE permitting experience is preferred, but it is not required. We are willing to train the right person who has strong organizational, communication, computer, and problem-solving skills. Microsoft Office Skills This position requires regular use of: Microsoft Word Microsoft Excel Microsoft Outlook Email and electronic document management The ability to create and maintain spreadsheets, organize project information, and accurately track multiple projects is important to the position.
