Job Description

Customer Service Designer I - Electrical Systems Beckwood, headquartered in Fenton, is one of the world's leading manufacturers of custom hydraulic presses and automation equipment and is seeking a Customer Service Designer I - Electrical Systems . This role plays a critical part in supporting the installed equipment base by troubleshooting electrical and controls-related issues, maintaining accurate machine documentation and schematic archives, and implementing design updates that improve machine reliability and serviceability. This position offers the opportunity to work hands-on with custom automation and press systems across a wide range of industries—from aerospace to medical manufacturing. You will collaborate closely with service, engineering, manufacturing, and field technicians to diagnose issues, support customers, and ensure Beckwood machines continue operating at peak performance throughout their lifecycle. The ideal candidate enjoys solving technical problems, working directly with equipment and service teams, and maintaining high standards of documentation accuracy and configuration control.

Beckwood offers a competitive compensation and benefits package including: Competitive salary Bi-annual bonus potential A team-focused culture with catered lunches, team-building activities, and employee engagement events Comprehensive benefits package for eligible employees: Health insurance Dental and Vision insurance Life insurance AD&D coverage Parental leave Flexible PTO and sick time 401(k) with employer contribution What You'll Be Doing Troubleshoot electrical, controls, and automation-related machine issues both remotely and in support of field service activities Develop, modify, and maintain detailed electrical schematics and control panel layouts using AutoCAD Electrical Maintain historical accuracy and revision control of Beckwood electrical schematic archives, ensuring machine documentation reflects field modifications and engineering changes Support root-cause analysis efforts and implement corrective electrical design updates to improve machine reliability and performance Ensure compliance with UL508A standards and customer specifications Adhere to ANSI and NFPA safety regulations within electrical designs and modifications Perform electrical design updates and modifications to support machine retrofits, upgrades, repairs, and replacement components Coordinate with service technicians, controls engineers, and manufacturing teams to resolve technical issues efficiently Support troubleshooting of PLC I/O, sensors, drives, HMI systems, and field wiring issues during startup and service activitie Monitor project and service activity budgets to maintain alignment with quoted parameters Coordinate control cabinet layout design with the Service Engineering team Provide regular progress updates to management and participate in technical reviews Assist with hardware-based customer service issues and support customer communication related to technical resolutions Maintain Beckwood's standard parts list, boilerplate drawing sets, and component catalog Mentor junior electrical designers, interns, and co-ops while fostering technical growth within the team Execute additional tasks such as I/O checkout and preparation of Controls Approval documentation for customer sign-off when needed
What We're Looking For:
Required Qualifications Associate degree or higher in a technical discipline 1-3 years' experience in a manufacturing, industrial service, controls, or automation environment, or 3-5 years relevant industry experience Technical aptitude in electrical systems, troubleshooting methodologies, and engineering processes Experience reading and interpreting electrical schematics and control documentation Key Skills & Attributes Successful candidates typically demonstrate: Strong troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills Ability to work effectively under pressure while resolving customer equipment issues High attention to detail and commitment to documentation accuracy and revision control Creativity and innovative problem-solving skills Strong integrity and adherence to ethical standards Ability to communicate confidently, even when presenting differing viewpoints Excellent organizational and time management skills with a focus on high-value activities Proven capability to manage multiple concurrent priorities and meet deadlines Results-driven mindset with a commitment to achieving defined objectives Work Environment This position is based in a professional office environment but includes regular time in the manufacturing facility and occasional support of field service activities to troubleshoot equipment and collaborate with technicians and production teams. While in the plant, employees may be exposed to typical manufacturing conditions such as machinery operation and moderate noise levels. Physical Demands This role primarily operates in a professional office environment, requiring the ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods while occasionally moving about to access office equipment and files. Additionally, the position regularly requires movement throughout the manufacturing floor to inspect, troubleshoot, and support machinery.
