Job Title:
Electrical Project Manager Job Description The Electrical Project Manager - Instrumentation & Controls (Industrial) is tasked with managing the execution of industrial electrical projects with a focus on instrumentation, process controls, and automation systems. This role oversees projects from preconstruction through closeout, ensuring safety, adherence to schedule, budget compliance, and alignment with project specifications and industry standards. The Project Manager acts as the primary point of contact between field operations, clients, engineers, and vendors. Responsibilities Manage all phases of industrial electrical and I&C projects, including planning, execution, commissioning, and closeout. Oversee installation of instrumentation, control panels, PLCs, HMIs, MCCs, VFDs, and associated power and control wiring. Coordinate project scope, schedules, manpower, materials, and equipment to meet contractual requirements. Review and manage project budgets, cost tracking, forecasting, and change orders. Interpret electrical, control, P&ID, loop diagrams, and construction drawings. Coordinate with engineers, owners, general contractors, and vendors to resolve technical and schedule issues. Lead project meetings, provide progress updates, and manage client communications. Review submittals, RFIs, and ensure compliance with specifications and quality standards. Support commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting of instrumentation and control systems. Ensure all work complies with NEC, NFPA, OSHA, and applicable local and federal regulations. Promote a strong safety culture and ensure adherence to all site safety requirements. Essential Skills 5+ years of project management experience in industrial electrical construction, with a strong emphasis on Instrumentation & Controls. Hands-on experience managing I&C scopes in industrial environments such as manufacturing, power generation, utilities, water/wastewater, chemical, or pharmaceutical facilities. Strong understanding of PLC-based control systems, instrumentation, and industrial automation. Ability to read and interpret electrical one-lines, control schematics, P&IDs, and loop drawings. Experience managing budgets, schedules, subcontractors, and field crews. Proficiency with project management and construction software (e.g., Procore, MS Project, Bluebeam, Excel). Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills. Additional Skills & Qualifications Electrical license, journeyman background, or engineering degree (Electrical, Controls, or related field). Experience with commissioning and startup of industrial control systems. Knowledge of common control platforms and protocols (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Modbus, Ethernet/IP, etc.). OSHA 30-hour certification. Experience working directly for an electrical subcontractor in an industrial setting. Work Environment This position requires on-site presence in active construction environments. The role demands leadership in managing field teams and multiple stakeholders, with the ability to make decisions in fast-paced situations. Clear, professional communication with clients, vendors, and internal teams is essential. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wilson, NC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $65.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
