Job Description
The National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) seeks a Project Manager II-III to lead complex telecommunications and media projects that enable world-class radio astronomy. Reporting to senior leadership, you will plan, execute, and monitor multi-phase projects involving engineering, IT, and scientific stakeholders. Responsibilities include defining scope, schedules, and budgets; managing risks and resources; coordinating cross-functional teams; and ensuring compliance with technical and safety standards. You will foster collaboration in NRAO's mission-driven, research-focused culture, support continuous improvement, and communicate progress to internal and external partners. Responsibilities Plan, execute, and close complex telecommunications and media projects supporting NRAO's scientific mission Develop and manage project scope, schedules, budgets, and resource plans Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks and issues Coordinate cross-functional teams including engineering, IT, and scientific stakeholders Monitor project performance and prepare status reports for leadership and partners Ensure compliance with technical, safety, and quality standards Manage vendor and contractor relationships and project deliverables Facilitate effective communication and collaboration across diverse, international teams Support continuous improvement of project management processes and tools Align project outcomes with organizational strategy and scientific objectives Required Skills Project planning Risk management Budget management Stakeholder management Telecommunications infrastructure knowledge Media systems understanding Agile methodologies Scheduling tools (MS Project or similar) Data analysis and reporting Vendor management
