80% Office / 20% Field (site visits, walkthroughs, and inspections) About the Role Spherion is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the business, financial, and administrative operations of our Premier client's paving division. Reporting directly to the President, you will oversee an annual division scope of approximately $5.2M, managing two internal paving crews as well as subcontracted services. In this role, you will also oversee the Superintendent and Project Coordinator, allowing the Superintendent to focus fully on field execution. You will serve as the primary point of accountability for keeping jobs on schedule, accurately managed, and free of preventable delays.

Key Responsibilities Project Scheduling & Coordination:

Maintain a rolling 4-8 week production schedule, lock in job dates, and create contingency plans for weather delays.

Subcontractor Management:

Schedule and coordinate subcontracted concrete, excavation, signage, bollards, striping, milling, and trucking work while ensuring all subs carry required insurance and COIs.

Financial & P&L Ownership:

Oversee the P&L outcome of the division's jobs, aiming to meet top-line production and gross margin goals.

Job Review & Estimating:

Proactively identify site conditions and access constraints on newly sold jobs. After approximately one year of experience, you will become the final approval point on estimates, scope, and pricing decisions before they reach the customer.

Change Orders & Billing:

Identify and price change orders on active jobs using the company pricing guide, present them to customers for approval, and review sub invoices for accuracy.

Material Sourcing & Equipment:

Coordinate mix design and material requests with the asphalt plant, source non-asphalt materials, and order rental equipment.

Customer Relations:

Manage scheduling conversations and address job-specific concerns for both residential and commercial customers.

Permits & Compliance:

Oversee township permit applications, act as the primary contact for inspectors, and share manager-level accountability for jobsite safety standards.

Leadership & Hiring:

Escalate field issues when necessary and actively participate in crew hiring decisions alongside the Superintendent and HR Manager. Qualifications & Experience Minimum 5 years of experience in construction is required. Experience in paving, asphalt, concrete, or heavy civil/site work is strongly preferred. Minimum 3 years of experience managing production schedules, crews, or subcontractors. Comfortable reviewing invoices, pricing change orders, and working with basic cost/budget data. Proficient with Google Workspace, especially Sheets and Gmail. Experience with project management/scheduling software is a plus. Must have a valid driver's license and the ability to travel to job sites regularly.
